Urban Planner

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has established a Net-Zero, Environment and Climate Resilience Cell to implement the Ahmedabad Climate Resilient City Action Plan – Towards a Net-Zero Future 2070. As part of this initiative, a dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) is being deployed to support planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of city-wide climate and sustainability actions.

The Urban Planner / Infrastructure Expert / Transport Planner will work as a core PMU team member, supporting AMC departments in mainstreaming climate resilience, sustainability, and low-carbon approaches into urban planning, infrastructure, and mobility projects.

Key Responsibilities:


The selected professional will work closely with AMC departments and the Net-Zero Cell to:

Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of climate-resilient and net-zero interventions across urban infrastructure and transport sectors
Integrate climate resilience, sustainability, and low-carbon principles into urban planning instruments, infrastructure projects, and mobility initiatives
Assist in preparation and review of Five-Year Action Plans and Annual Action Plans aligned with the city’s Climate Resilient City Action Plan
Coordinate with multiple AMC departments to embed climate considerations into development plans, town planning schemes, transport projects, and urban programmes
Support identification, design, and tracking of urban transport and green mobility interventions, including public transport, non-motorized transport, and clean mobility initiatives
Contribute to monitoring frameworks, KPIs, and periodic progress reporting for climate actions and infrastructure projects
Support data collection, analysis, and reporting related to urban systems, infrastructure performance, and transport emissions
Assist AMC in aligning city projects with state and national schemes (e.g., NCAP, Smart Cities Mission, AMRUT, EV initiatives)
Participate in stakeholder consultations, inter-departmental coordination meetings, and field visits as required
Contribute to monthly progress reports, technical notes, and documentation for AMC and external reporting platforms

Educational Qualifications

Postgraduate degree in one of the following:
Urban Planning
Environmental Planning
Environmental Engineering
Urban Infrastructure Planning

Experience Requirements
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
Urban planning and urban infrastructure projects
Transportation planning or urban mobility
Climate resilience or climate action planning
Environmental planning or sustainability-focused urban projects
Circular economy, water and wastewater, or green mobility projects

Experience working with urban local bodies, government agencies, or city-level projects will be an advantage.

Skills and Competencies:


Strong understanding of urban systems, infrastructure planning, and transport planning
Ability to apply a climate and sustainability lens to urban projects and policies
Experience in inter-departmental coordination and working in multi-stakeholder environments
Familiarity with government programmes, urban missions, and planning processes
Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills
Ability to work on-site and support day-to-day coordination within a PMU setup

Language Requirements:


Proficiency in English, Hindi, and Gujarati (read, write, and speak) is required, as the role involves extensive coordination with local departments and stakeholders.
