A separate unit within Aalto University, the Language Centre is responsible for the teaching of language and communication skills for the bachelor, master’s and doctoral students of Aalto University.
The Language Centre is seeking a competent and enthusiastic University Teacher or Lecturer in English
Your role
In this position, you will be teaching English at undergraduate level mainly to students in the technical schools of Aalto University. Teaching takes place mainly on campus. Depending on your background and experience, the role might also include functioning as a writing clinic consultant where your job is to support students and researchers at Aalto University in writing theses, dissertations, and journal articles in English. Your essential duties will also include the development of courses and course contents both independently and in collaboration with other English teachers to meet the needs of the various fields studied at Aalto University.
Your experience and ambitions
You have a Master’s degree in English Philology / Applied Linguistics / TESOL or equivalent. Please note that your degree needs to include courses in English language and/or linguistics, and we cannot consider applicants with degrees that do not include these. You have good teaching skills and some pedagogical studies. Ideally, you also have some experience in teaching academic writing in higher education institutions and working in a variety of learning environments, but this is not necessarily required as we also welcome applicants at the early stages of their career who are ready to grow into the role. We are seeking open-minded candidates who have a drive for student-centered teaching, interest in CLIL (content and language integrated learning) as well as interest and aptitude for collaboration with other English teachers.
What we offer
The position is full-time and permanent, starting on August 1, 2026. The Language Centre is an inspirational working community that offers interesting and diverse tasks. You will be part of the English team consisting of 16 teachers from various backgrounds. As an English teacher, you have the opportunity to learn new also from the substance point of view as you work with both students and our academic staff from different fields. Teaching staff work under an annual hours contract, which is currently 1,612 hours per academic year.
