About QBE

At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.

We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.

What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK as visa sponsorship is not available for this role

The opportunity

We’re hiring an Underwriting Manager – International to lead underwriting for Automotive Protection across global markets (products include Extended Warranty, GAP Insurance, Cosmetic Repair and others). You’ll lead and manage the Underwriting Team, shape underwriting decisions for both new and existing schemes, and balance growth with thoughtful, disciplined risk selection. Working closely with regional distribution hubs in the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East, you will have responsibility to drive profitable new business, optimise portfolio performance, and champion best‑practice underwriting processes.

This role sits within QBE’s empowered underwriting model, giving you clear authority, confidence and accountability to deliver the bottom‑line plan.

Your New Role

This is a chance to step into a role with genuine influence, connection and purpose. You’ll collaborate with talented colleagues, shape the future of our international portfolio, and help create an environment where good underwriting thrives. It’s a space where your expertise will be valued — and where you can grow, coach and lead with confidence.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach and develop the Underwriting team, nurturing capability and confidence

  • Support growth across international AP markets while ensuring balance and underwriting discipline

  • Oversee risk assessment, pricing and terms for AP products (GAP, Extended Warranty, Cosmetic Repair and others)

  • Apply QBE’s empowered underwriting model and maintain clear governance and documentation

  • Handle complex referrals and escalate with clarity and well‑considered recommendations

  • Partner closely with Distribution, Claims, Legal, Performance, Governance and Analytics

  • Track portfolio performance and share insights that spark action and improvement

  • Elevate pricing model governance and promote best‑practice underwriting rhythms

  • Contribute to product, wording and contract development across international placements

  • Ensure contract certainty and alignment with regulatory expectations

About You

We’re looking for someone who blends expertise with curiosity, clarity with collaboration, and confidence with compassion. You’ll help shape our international AP strategy while bringing your own voice, ideas and experience to the table. If you enjoy working with people, solving problems and guiding teams, this role will feel like the right fit.

Skills & Experience:

  • Technical underwriting experience in Automotive Protection (i.e. Extended Warranty, GAP, Cosmetic Repair) or adjacent lines across multiple markets

  • Experience managing a portfolio with a focus on sustainable, profitable outcomes

  • Comfortable working with product wordings and navigating international regulatory environments

  • Able to influence and collaborate across teams and geographies with warmth and clarity

  • Confident prioritising, organising and balancing multiple moving parts

  • Thoughtful negotiator with a people‑centred approach

  • Comfortable using data and insights to support underwriting decisions

  • A credible communicator who builds trust and connection at all levels
