Job Summary: The Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of Inspector General (OIG) provides independent, objective reviews of the efficiency and effectiveness of Department of Transportation programs and operations, and detects and prevents fraud, waste, and abuse, and criminal violations of laws affecting DOT. OIG fulfills statutory responsibilities and supports members of Congress, the Secretary, Department officials, and the public in achieving a safe, efficient, and effective transportation system.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: As a basic requirement for entry into the Senior Executive Service (SES), you must show in your resume evidence of progressively responsible leadership experience that is indicative of senior executive level management capability and that is directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the Technical Qualifications and Executive Core Qualifications listed below. TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated executive-level experience addressing complex legal issues relating to audits and evaluations of Federal programs and operations, and legal issues relating to criminal, civil, and administrative investigations of Federal programs, employees, contractors, and grantees. Demonstrated executive-level experience addressing Federal legal issues relating to procurement, appropriations, litigation procedures, employee relations, ethics, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Privacy Act. Knowledge of the legal authorities that govern an Office of Inspector General including, but not limited to, the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, and demonstrated executive-level experience working with the Department of Justice, Congress, Office of Management and Budget, other Offices of Inspector General, or other Government agencies. EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQs): Below are descriptions of the ECQs that must be clearly described in your resume. ECQ 3 – Merit and Competence: This core qualification involves the demonstrated knowledge, ability and technical competence to effectively and reliably produce work that is of exceptional quality. Technical Skill, Problem Solving, Agility and Resilience. ECQ 4 – Leading People: This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a group toward meeting the organization’s vision, mission, and goals, and to drive a high-performance, high-accountability culture. This includes, when necessary, the ability to lead people through change and to hold individuals accountable. Accountability, Developing Others, Executive Judgement. ECQ 5 – Achieving Results: This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to achieve both individual and organizational results, and to align results to stated goals from superiors. Operational Mindset, Innovation, Strategic Thinking. Note: If you are a member of the SES or have been certified through successful participation in an OPM approved SES Candidate Development Program (SESCDP), or have SES reinstatement eligibility, you do not need to respond to the ECQs. Instead, you should attach proof (e.g., SF-50, Certification by OPM's SES Qualifications Review Board (QRB)) of your eligibility for noncompetitive appointment to the SES.
