Role: Underwriter - US Casualty

Position type: Full time, permanent (minimum 4 days a week in the London office)
We are looking for an ambitious and dynamic Underwriter to join our leading US Casualty team. You will be a key member of the team responsible for the strategic and day-to-day management of the portfolio.
About The Role
What you’ll spend your time doing: Here’s a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:
- Play a pivotal role in the technical underwriting and strategic management of our US Casualty portfolio, which includes both Delegated Authority & Open Market business, making sound, long-term decisions on portfolios covering a diverse mix of General Liability, E&O, Medical Malpractice and Niche Auto business.
- Forge deep, collaborative partnerships with our specialist MGA partners across the US. This is a relationship-driven role that requires regular travel to the US to meet with coverholders, attend conferences and conduct underwriting audits.
- Act as a key member of a close-knit and empowered team of four, contributing to a collaborative culture through active participation in underwriting meetings, peer review, and the sharing of market insights to achieve our collective goals.
- Analyse the portfolio in detail to identify trends, new opportunities, and strategic adjustments, developing a deep commercial acumen and specialist expertise in the US Casualty market.
- Understand and negotiate binder agreements and policy wordings in line with corporate standards.
- Drive the partner experience through the efficient oversight of issues raised including product design, liaison and claims management.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Conduct your role in accordance with the Company’s Business Ethics policy and all regulated entities as appropriate.
- Manage your book of business so that it complies with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements and wider company policies.
Management Information
- Play an active role in the regular underwriting meetings.
- Ensure the risk entry system is meticulously maintained.
- Produce appropriate and accurate class reports as necessary.
- Review underwriting figures on a regular basis in order that unusual trends and/or adverse movements may be dealt with by appropriate action.
- Monitor premium payments and follow up as necessary.
About You:
- Good knowledge and underwriting expertise, ideally within US Casualty lines (General Liability, Professional Indemnity, or Medical Malpractice).
- Experience with or a strong understanding of Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) / MGA business is highly desirable.
- Ability to effectively influence and strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Sound financial and commercial acumen.
- Possess high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong problem solving skills.
