Working as part of the Agile application development teams, the UI Styling Specialist translates design system specifications and Human-Centered Design (HCD) concepts into scalable, production-ready front-end styling using ReactJS, NodeJS, Tailwind, and AWS environments. This role collaborates closely with UI Architects, UX Designers, and Developers to maintain a unified visual identity aligned with modernization and Section 508 accessibility standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce style consistency and design system adherence across all modules and Agile teams.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX Designers and Architects to translate mockups and prototypes into fully styled and interactive interfaces.
  • Optimize front-end performance through modular CSS architecture, asset optimization, and layout efficiency.
  • Ensure all styling meets Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Conduct visual QA and regression testing to validate layout integrity and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Participate in sprint planning and reviews to support iterative visual refinement and UI consistency.
  • Contribute to the design system and style guide evolution, ensuring updates are version-controlled and documented.
  • Collaborate with QA and automation teams to validate UI appearance within the CI/CD delivery pipeline.

Deliverable Alignment & Performance Outcomes:

  • Design System Artifacts: Theme definitions, reusable style components, and accessibility guidelines.
  • UI Consistency Reports: Audits of cross-application visual alignment and color/token usage.
  • Accessibility Compliance Results: Verification of styling and visual assets against Section 508 standards.
  • Front-End Optimization Reports: Metrics for rendering speed, layout stability, and responsiveness.
  • Performance Outcomes:
  • o Achieve ≥95% adherence to design system standards across all CMM applications.
  • o Maintain <2-second load times for styled components on major pages.
  • o Zero accessibility or contrast violations in visual audits.
  • o 100% style guide synchronization across Agile release trains.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in front-end styling and responsive UI development, including 3+ years supporting enterprise or federal systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with CSS3, SCSS/SASS, Tailwind, and Bootstrap frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript, and React component styling (Styled Components, Emotion).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain large-scale design systems and CSS architecture (BEM, SMACSS).
  • Hands-on experience optimizing UI performance for cloud-based applications.
  • Proven track record ensuring accessibility (WCAG 2.1 / Section 508) compliance through CSS and ARIA styling techniques.
  • Experience collaborating with UI/UX teams to translate Figma, Adobe XD, or Miro designs into pixel-accurate implementations.
  • Strong visual sensibility, attention to detail, and understanding of typography, color theory, and layout principles.
  • Experience in federal digital service or court management application modernization programs.
  • Familiarity with DesignOps and maintaining shared design tokens or style libraries.
  • Experience using PostCSS, Storybook, or Chromatic for design consistency testing.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD automation for front-end asset deployment.
  • Awareness of Zero Trust Design and secure front-end practices.

Certifications:

  • Certified Web Accessibility Specialist (CWAS) or Section 508 Trusted Tester – preferred.
  • SAFe Practitioner (SPC/SSM) or Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) – beneficial.
  • Front-End Developer Certification (W3C or FreeCodeCamp) – a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the preparation of graphics materials as well as knowledge of the associated software and equipment and in-depth knowledge of graphics software programs.
  • AA/AS degree minimum

COMMUNICATION & ORGANIZATIONAL
