Position Summary:

The Treasury Director will manage banking relationships and oversee administration of bank accounts and documentation, monitor bank related fees to control costs while maintaining effective business processes, support cash and liquidity processes on a routine basis, and perform various Treasury analyses when needed.  This Director will work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage treasury services banking relationships including negotiation of fees, management of bank accounts and establishment of service level agreements with banking partners

  • Oversee administration of bank accounts and documentation for all organizational and/or entity changes. This includes serving as a Cash Management representative for Treasury during mergers and acquisitions and for project meetings with business partners

  • Primary contact for fraud investigations related to banking activities

  • Set daily cash position periodically to ensure accurate funding of accounts and the regulated money pool, tracking of intercompany funding, processing of electronic payments, coordinating the daily liquidity needs, etc. This is a critical function and all team members are trained for business continuity purposes

  • Periodically assist with liquidity process. Based on a shortfall of cash needs, issue commercial paper at cost effective rates. If cash is available over the daily needs, invest the cash to achieve the highest possible return on invested cash while preserving principal.  This is a critical function, and several team members are trained for business continuity purposes

  • Assist or lead special projects as they arise

  • Oversee the Company's money pool program to ensure all inter-company borrowing meets the requirements of the program

  • Treasury representative for work with cross-functional areas throughout the Company to fully understand their financial needs, maintain effective and efficient business processes and controls costs. These include Supply Chain, CXL, Payroll, Revenue Services, Accounting, Investor Relations, Tax, Legal, etc.

  • Responsible owner for Treasury workstation (Kyriba)

  • Owner of Treasury's Business Continuity Plan. The plan is partially activated frequently as one or more bank feeds or systems may fail during daily processing.

  • Cash forecasting for the Holdco and the operating utilities

  • Responsible for ensuring Cash Management is using accurate accounting for all Treasury generated transactions

  • Provides technical expertise and research on treasury related issues. Oversees and tracks corporate guarantees and credit enhancements working with Legal, Accounting and the business for timely implementation of these credit support mechanisms.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Management OR Other Related degree

  • Eight (8) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field

  • Certified Treasury Professional or Certified Public Accountant certification (or equivalent)

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience in the banking industry or at a public utility

  • Demonstrated skills in variance analysis

  • Demonstrated project management or leadership skills

  • Strong analytical and critical reasoning ability

  • Able to work in a team environment as well as ability to work independently

  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment reacting quickly to multiple changing business priorities

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to influence, interact and communicate with internal personnel and external customers and banking partners at all levels and with multiple backgrounds

  • Highly organized with attention to detail

  • Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Previous experience with cash/bank management systems and treasury workstation

  • Ability to resolve complex treasury issues across multiple functions

  • Demonstrated ability to stay abreast of market conditions and industry trends

  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to pertinent business issues

  • Effective interpersonal skills, team oriented and interest in employee development

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
