Pay Range

$16.80 - $25.20

Major Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates competency in the physical care of the patient according to MCCG & specific unit patient care standards.
  • Upon receiving notification of transport request, registers acceptance of transport in system. Upon completion of transport, registers completion of transport in the system along with other appropriate information.
  • Utilizing proper safety precautions, moves patients to and from beds, stretchers, procedure tables, and wheelchairs for transportation to and from various locations within the hospital or to the discharge area. Assists with positioning of patients for procedures.
  • Follow proper procedures in transporting bodies to the morgue. Escort funeral directors to and from the morgue ensuring proper procedures are followed. Transports other items as necessary between various locations within the hospital.
  • Cleans equipment in accordance with departmental procedures and reports/delivers broken equipment for repair.
  • Responds to requests for patient lifting assistance and logs information appropriately.  Demonstrates competency in the use of lift equipment.
  • Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills when conversing with patients, family members, physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.  Relates relevant information with the appropriate member of the healthcare team.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Current AHA BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare provider) required within three (3) months of hire

Education Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

Experience Required:

  • Prior experience taking care of patients and/or dealing with the public

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Must be able to adapt to changing areas of assignment.  Must be able to utilize common sense and good judgment when required to make independent decisions.  Must be able to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with patients, patients’ families, physicians, and co-workers. Must be able to utilize discretion in handling confidential information.  Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.  Must be able to work irregular schedules, holidays, and weekends due to staffing and census fluctuations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.  Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.  Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport of supplies and/or equipment using good body mechanics. Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength based upon the specific job evaluation levels.  Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly. Must be able to lift 50-80# and carry 50-80# specific to the job evaluation level for their position.  If job class is classified under POPE D, must pass the cardiac recovery test.  Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors. Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations in all weather conditions . Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously. Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously
