Transportation Supervisor
The purpose of this position is to ensure the safe, cost effective, and compliant transportation of all Hydrite products via Hydrite’s private fleet. This position is part of the Hydrite Transportation Team.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Supports the Transportation Manager in the supervision of drivers and equipment
- Supports the Transportation Manager in ensuring internal fleet maintains compliance with DOT regulations, OSHA regulations, and Hydrite SOP’s and internal processes.
- Partners with operations management teams, Central Planning, and Customer Experience to ensure freight is delivered timely to our internal and external customers
- Reviews driver utilization, equipment utilization, and repair activity reports (including driver VCR’s) daily to ensure DOT compliance, fleet efficiency, and proper cost management.
- Review Samsara system daily. Monitor safety videos and HOS to ensure safe vehicle operation and DOT compliance. Escalate issues to Transportation Manager as needed.
- Support and answer operational/procedural questions from drivers
- Coach drivers on safety and operational best practices to drive ownership of HCC safety values, mission and vision.
- Perform regular SBV’s (Pre/Post trip observations and driver ride-alongs) to confirm adherence to DOT regulations and Hydrite SOP’s
- Assist Transportation Manager in coordinating equipment maintenance
- Drive retention initiatives through good hiring practices, employee engagement, and other company retention programs.
- Ensures the safe operation of the site’s private fleet.
- Provides quality service to all internal and external Hydrite customers.
- Drive safety messages to driver team (Weekly Toolbox Talks, Safety Blitz reports, etc)
- Attend and contribute to the Quarterly Safety Meeting presentation
- Must be available via phone during off-hours (nights, weekends). Most calls from drivers for call-off’s, equipment or load issues, etc.
- Assist Transportation Manager in onboarding new drivers
- Serves as back-up to the Transportation Manager
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITES
- Guides employee performance and development through the use of daily communication and performance evaluations.
- Upholds Hydrite’s Standard of Excellence through a continuous commitment to maintain quality facilities and provide quality products and services to internal and external customers
- Performs duties outlined in relevant SOPs and all other duties as assigned
- As representatives of Hydrite, all employees are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
- Works with other team members to maintain workload balances. Provides back-up support as necessary.
- Supports effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the site team.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- This position reports to the Transportation Manager
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Candidates should have strong knowledge of dispatch operations, transportation management, and logistics solutions with a broad knowledge in DOT rules and regulations.
- Must have at least 1 year supervisory experience in a trucking or warehouse environment; bulk tank truck experience preferred.
- Experience working with a TMS and dispatching system highly preferred; experience with E2Open and Samsara systems preferred but not required.
- Must have strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Associates degree is preferred.
- Basic mechanical understanding of CMV’s (tractors and chemical tankers) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit for up to four hours at a time.
- Ability to sit up to 10 hours a day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to climb into and out of truck and trailer
- Required travel less than 10%
