A day in the life:

  • Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools to apply, maintain and replace striping and road markings.

  • Remove existing paint using sand blasting or grinding equipment.

  • Collaborate with contractors to determine layout of road markings and striping.

  • Maintain and repair fences, guardrails, concrete barriers and milepost markers.

  • Control traffic and clean up roadways in emergency situations.

  • Exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous materials such as epoxy, paints, thermoplastics, thinners and acetones are expected.

  • Must be able to move around rough terrain, uneven slopes, bend and stoop for extended periods and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.

  • May need to travel throughout the region and be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.

Minimum qualifications (encouraged, not required):

Six months experience operating heavy or light motorized equipment, using hand and power tools, performing minor servicing of equipment, and applying safety procedures.

Special qualifications:

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered. 

This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 2775 25th St. SE, Salem, OR 97302 for emergency call-outs.

  • Experience in road maintenance, construction or in a maintenance training program such as ODOT High School to Highway program, ODOT/ODF Fire and Ice program, Job Corps, etc.

  • Experience performing roadway striping or maintenance work.

  • Experience reviewing, reading and interpreting striping plans.

  • Experience working on a team.

  • Basic computer experience.
