The Training Captain plays a key leadership role in strengthening the operational and safety culture across our fleet in the Dominican Republic. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a structured training programme for all current Dominican cluster Masters and Captains and delivering structured onboard training and mentoring to tug Captains candidates, ensuring their progressive development in accordance with company training procedures and manuals.

The Training Captain will work closely with Operations, HSEQ, and Crewing departments to ensure all training activities align with safety standards, operational requirements, and compliance expectations. This role is also instrumental in reinforcing adherence to our safety culture by actively participating in onboard follow-ups and developing the next generation of competent and safety-minded tug Captains.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Training Captain is expected to be a “company ambassador”, demonstrating a positive reputation and embodying the values and standards of our organization. This role requires a dedicated professional who is passionate about developing the next generation of maritime leaders.

·QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid and unlimited Master’s license (STCW).

  • Proficient experience as a Tug Captain, preferably in terminal and harbor towage.

  • Proven track record of offshore towage experience.

  • Prior experience mentoring or training junior officers or trainees onboard an advantage.

  • Prior experience in operating in a high standard offshore environment (e.g OCIMF)

  • Strong understanding of tug propulsion systems (ASD or ATD).

  • Fluent in Spanish, with intermediate proficiency in English (spoken and written).

  • Solid knowledge of maritime safety standards, company policies, and local/international regulations (ISM, STCW, SOLAS).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations with calmness and efficiency.

  • Ability to work in a diverse global environment and willingness to travel as needed.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Declares and avoids any conflict of interest, including personal relationships with trainees.

  • Works closely with port leadership to ensure the timely planning, execution, and monitoring of all training activities.

  • Promotes continuous learning, safety culture, and operational excellence.

  • May be called upon to support new port entries or training needs in the Americas region.

  • Must be available to work onboard vessels and travel between ports when required.
