As a Traffic Development Review Engineer within the Traffic Engineering Branch, you will play an important role in supporting the review and analysis of traffic impacts related to new development and Traffic Engineering projects. You will apply traffic engineering principles to evaluate proposed access points and traffic mitigation measures to address impacts from private developments, ensuring that new developments integrate safely and efficiently across Maricopa County's transportation network.
Working under the guidance of Senior Engineers, you will analyze traffic data, prepare and review engineering reports, and coordinate with developers, consultants, and internal teams to identify and resolve Traffic Engineering issues.
This role is ideal for emerging Traffic Engineering professionals building their expertise and eager to contribute to improving roadway safety, mobility, and operational efficiency throughout Maricopa County while working with multiple stakeholders.

We Require
Two years of professional pre-registration civil engineering experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) may substitute for the required experience
A combination of related post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
Other Requirements
Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

Experience in traffic engineering
Experience in reviewing engineering design plans
Experience in reviewing traffic impact studies and working with developers in addressing traffic impacts to the roadway system
Experience in interpreting and analyzing data and writing technical reports
Knowledge of traffic engineering practices and procedures
Familiar with the latest versions of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets (AASHTO), and National highway and roadway design guidelines and standards
Experience with traffic modeling software, including Synchro
Job Contributions
Review traffic impacts of private development projects and perform comment resolution activities to address comments/concerns frim citizens, homeowner associations, and consultants, as it relates to traffic engineering issues.
Prepare and review traffic engineering plans for projects with a high level of complexity, including traffic signals, pavement marking and signing, intersection improvements, and low-cost safety improvement projects in accordance with Maricopa County and National standards and guidelines
Supervise and review the work of staff, contractors, or industry specialists/consultants as needed; lead the quality control process in the design review phases of traffic engineering projects, including reviewing engineering reports, project plans, cost estimates, and special provisions for projects
Meet with various levels of staff, including leadership, engineers, contractors, and the public, to clearly communicate traffic engineering alternatives and mitigation measures
Provide technical guidance to staff, departments, the regulated community, consultants, attorneys, other regulatory agencies, and the public regarding traffic engineering issues as needed
Compile, interpret, and analyze volume, speed, crash, delay, and queuing data, and conduct analysis using Synchro and other tools

This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked
