Job Description:

You will provide support to countries in Asia Pacific on Customs & Trade Compliance that includes Import & Export Control and regulatory, product classification (harmonized code), free trade agreement and country of origin. This includes risk compliance assessment and developing policy and standards for sustain compliance across region. You will be required to drive operational excellence with peers and cross functional team on broker management and opportunities in reducing landed cost.

Major Responsibilities

You will provide support to countries in the Asia Pacific on Customs & Trade Compliance that includes Import & Export Control and regulatory, product classification (harmonized code), free trade agreement, and country of origin. This includes risk compliance assessment and developing policies and standards for sustaining compliance across region. You will be required to drive operational excellence with peers and cross-functional teams on broker management and opportunities in reducing landed cost.

  • Lead organizations with the objectives of the Global Initiative.

  • Collaborate with country, region, and St. Paul Legal counsel to establish understanding of local and regional Trade Compliance government agencies and applicable regulations. 

  • Assess compliance of existing processes and controls and propose solutions to ensure compliance.

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain regional Trade Compliance policies, business rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials to minimize the risk of an inadvertent error or violation.

  • Assess country compliance and capabilities.  Identify gaps and propose solutions to address gaps.  Highlight and recognize best practices and develop strategies to expand their use.

  • Engage and coordinate Trade Compliance issues with regional and country Legal counsel.

  • Manage customs clearance for imports and exports

  • Management of the customs brokers and outsourcing partners

  • Response to internal and external audits related to trade practices/other operations

  • Execution/management of trade practices in compliance with Trade Compliance and domestic laws and regulations

  • Conduct import and export related training for employees

Qualifications  

  • A Bachelor’s degree or above

  • Min. 5+ years of related job experience is preferred.  

  • Analytical and creative approach to define the root causes and to establish the process and to resolve the encountered problems with self-motivation.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to interact and collaborate with cross functional groups cross region.

  • Able to work and lead a cross functional/regional/divisional setting.

  • Expect some overseas travel and team player.

  • Proficient in English in writing and speaking.

Work location: Tokyo, Japan
