Role: Lead Test & Evaluation Engineer (Fixed Wing)
Boeing Test & Evaluation UK (BT&E UK) is Boeing Defence UK’s flight test organisation responsible for delivery of developmental and maintenance flight /test operations in the UK. BT&E UK is currently conducting Wedgetail Test flying as well as planning for future flight trials on Boeing platforms.
The Senior Test & Evaluation Engineer role will be responsible E7 Wedgetail ground and flight test execution on a complex test programme. Primarily this will consist of performing a leading role in the coordination of a combined test team from multiple countries and organisations.
The candidate will have significant experience of test planning, execution and reporting and be capable of providing advice on test conduct to the Flight Test Programme Manager. Furthermore, at a BT&E team level the role will include finance, labour tracking, resource forecasting and research to assist strategic decision making.
The successful candidate is expected to be able to conduct the following:
- Coordination of multiple stakeholders in the delivery of the test programme
- Lead conduct of complex on-aircraft test events, involving external assets and test personnel from multiple organisations.
- Coordination of Test & Engineering functions from across Boeing to enable complex testing to be conducted in compliance with UK regulation
- Represent Boeing T&E/Flight Operations at RAF Lossiemouth and other locations.
- Be able to communicate clearly with the customer, suppliers and other BDUK functions in the delivery of the test programme.
- Develop test strategies for production/non-production aircraft.
- Develop planning and execution documents; test plans, test procedures, hazard analyses and reports.
- Provide T&E support to Boeing Design Organisation and assist with product development and certification activities.
- Ability to mentor other team members
Required competencies:
- Essential to be able to obtain full UK SC security clearance.
- Must be able to pass an FAA (Class III) aviation medical.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- Understanding of Test and Evaluation process and how it relates to Military Aircraft Regulation in the UK
- Knowledge of Safety and Quality Assurance process interactions with test operations, including incident notifications, and anomaly documentation and resolution processes.
- An understanding of the support functions necessary to deliver a complex military test programme (e.g. security, maintenance, supply chain)
- Ability to communicate clearly using Microsoft Office products
- The role will have significant UK and US Boeing interface and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is required.
- Clear understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle
Preferred competencies:
- Graduate of a UK military recognized test pilot school (ETPS, EPNER, USAFTPS or USNTPS) or Aerosystems course.
- Prior experience of mission systems, sensors and communications testing on military platforms
- Detailed technical knowledge of any Boeing rotary,UAS or fixed wing aircraft.
- UK Military T&E Experience
- Experience of working in a Combined Test Team.
- Understanding of Programme Management best practices
- Experience in working with international collaborative organizations or partnerships.
- Experience of estimating resource requirements and managing programme risks, issues and opportunities
