We are looking for an experienced terrestrial biologist with strong client relationships to add to our Infrastructure team in the Greater Toronto Region. You will have the flexibility to work from an office in Toronto, Markham, London, Toronto or Oakville and also from home. Our team is focused on helping our provincial and municipal clients expand and improve their transportation systems through innovative solutions to their tough planning and design challenges.
Parsons is seeking a Terrestrial Biologist for our team in Ontario to join the Environmental Services Group in Ontario. In this role the successful candidate be an integral part of the environmental group and will be involved in a wide range of projects across the province. Willingness to travel to field sites is expected. Our team is focused on helping our provincial and municipal clients expand and improve their transportation systems through innovative solutions to their tough planning and design challenges
The Biologist/Ecologist’s key responsibilities include:
- Performs a variety of field and office tasks requiring the application of complex scientific principles and fundamental theories
- Undertakes and participates in biological field investigations and data collection (e.g., breeding bird and amphibian surveys, bat acoustic surveys, vegetation inventories and tree surveys, wildlife and species at risk surveys, Ecological Land Classification assessment, wetland evaluations, and fisheries assessments) following established protocols.
- Strong technical writing skills; provide high quality review of technical documents; report writing, impact assessment, ecological reporting.
- Manage project workloads, scheduling and coordination
- Assists with proposal development, work programs, managing project budgets and invoicing.
- Assist with Project Management/coordination of ecological services work
- Provide mentorship to intermediate and junior staff members as well as the opportunity to manage others
Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in private sector/consulting
- Post-secondary education in environmental science/studies, biology/ecology/Forestry, geography, or related field
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience in the collection, analysis, and reporting of field data following established protocols
- Demonstrated experience in conducting terrestrial inventories and habitat assessments
- Experience in the accurate identification of Ontario flora and fauna (trees, shrubs, wildflowers, grasses, birds, reptiles amphibians, mammals, and/or insects).
- RAQS Certification (Nature Science, etc.) considered an asset or experience to obtain RAQS certification.
- Experience with obtaining permits and approvals under the Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Fisheries Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act
- Current or past certification as an ISA Certified Arborist or Registered Professional Forester is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Species at Risk found in Ontario, including identification, habitat, and life-history.
- Experience in completing Impact Assessment following municipal, provincial or federal policies or acts.
- Maintaining and organizing accurate and detailed fieldnotes as well as photo documentation records.
- Proficiency in the use of ArcGIS Software.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills particularly technical report writing.
Valid driver's license

Salary Range: $26.44 - $50.48
