Technology Manager I

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Execution Ownership (Hands‑On & Leadership)

· Own and lead mechanical project execution for LV and MV switchgear (480V–38kV) and PDUs from project kickoff through production support.

· Act as the single point of accountability for all mechanical engineering deliverables on assigned projects.

· Be directly involved in hands‑on mechanical design activities, especially for complex enclosures, bus structures, glastic supports, and system integration challenges.

· Ensure adherence to project schedules, proactively identifying risks and coordinating mitigation actions with the Project Management team.

2. Team Leadership & Functional Management

· Provide direct functional leadership to all Mechanical Designers reporting into the role.

· Plan, assign, and prioritize mechanical engineering tasks based on project timelines, complexity, and resource availability.

· Perform detailed technical reviews of 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and production packages prepared by the team.

· Actively contribute as a hands‑on designer when required to support schedule recovery, resolve technical issues, or handle high‑complexity projects.

· Mentor and develop team members, reinforcing strong engineering discipline, standardization, and best practices.

3. Specification Review & Technical Coordination

· Lead and actively perform detailed review of customer specifications, drawings, and contractual requirements from a mechanical perspective.

· Identify design constraints, risks, deviations, and manufacturing impacts early in the project lifecycle.

· Coordinate closely with the Project Management team and Global Engineering teams to resolve design clarifications, align assumptions, and manage technical changes.

· Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to ensure seamless electro‑mechanical integration.

4. Preliminary Design Submittals

· Lead, prepare, and review preliminary mechanical design submittals, including:

o Overall switchgear and PDU footprint layouts

o Panel arrangement and enclosure configuration concepts

o Accessibility, maintainability, and service clearances

· Ensure preliminary layouts are compliant with specifications, standards, and manufacturing constraints.

· Personally develop or co‑develop layouts for complex or critical projects to ensure accuracy and feasibility.

5. Final Design Submittals

· Own and be directly involved in the development and approval of final mechanical design submittals, including:

o Detailed 3D assembly models

o 2D structural and fabrication drawings

o Fully detailed and structured Bills of Materials (BOMs)

· Ensure all review comments from customers, consultants, and internal stakeholders are properly addressed prior to approval.

6. Production Release & Manufacturing Support

· Lead preparation and release of complete mechanical drawing packages for production, including:

o Structural fabrication drawings

o Busbar mechanical drawings

o Glastic and insulation component drawings

o Bus and Glastic cut lists

· Ensure production packages are complete, accurate, and manufacturing‑ready, enabling efficient shop‑floor execution.

· Provide hands‑on technical support to Manufacturing to resolve build queries, fit‑up issues, and non‑conformances.

· Support Project Management during production, FAT, and delivery phases for any mechanical clarifications.

7. Cross‑Functional & Global Collaboration

· Work closely with Global engineering, Project Management, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams throughout the project lifecycle.

· Collaborate actively with Global Engineering teams to ensure alignment on design standards, tools, modeling practices, and documentation methods.

· Participate in global design reviews, lessons‑learned discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

8. Standards, Quality & Engineering Discipline

· Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable ANSI, IEEE, CSA, and UL requirements, as relevant to LV/MV switchgear and PDUs.

· Ensure compliance with structural, seismic (where applicable), thermal, and safety requirements.

· Maintain strong control over engineering quality, documentation accuracy, and configuration management.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).

· Strong hands-on experience in mechanical design and execution of LV and MV switchgear and PDUs.

· Proven experience leading project-based mechanical engineering teams while remaining actively involved in design execution.

· Solid understanding of enclosures, bus support systems, insulation systems (glastic), thermal considerations, and manufacturability.

· Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or equivalent), CAD data management tools, and engineering documentation systems.

· Proficiency in ERP (SAP or equivalent), MS office and mechanical design tools.
