Packaging Engineer
Job Purpose
- Packaging expert on multiple packaging processes at the manufacturing site.
- Support packaging elements of New Product Introductions to meet product
launch dates. - Control and improve all aspects of packaging within site remit.
- Support the delivery for new packaging technology initiatives as required.
Implement packaging validation and packaging components Change Control as required - Detailed and structured problem-solving approach to be used for all process
issues which should include but not limited to:- Problem Statement
- Timeline of events
- Fishbone analysis
- 5 Why’s
- Root causes/potential root causes
- Detailed action plans with timelines and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the Technical support to the site for primary, secondary, and tertiary
packaging operations (process equipment, test equipment and components) to
ensure robust processes. - Support site packaging activities related to NPI and the packaging validation
involvement within such projects (process & equipment): providing site
leadership and input into Packaging equipment selection, URS & FDS for
packaging equipment - Drive 100% packaging compliance with internal (QMS) and external quality,
regulatory and other compliance systems and management of the packaging
trials, validation, documentation. - Support the introduction of all packaging changes associated with components
changes & NPIs, ensuring they are fit for purpose prior to being formally
commercialized and introduced and in accordance with the QMS / site change
control policy - Input into package design by acting as the ‘voice of packaging’ for the site
- In conjunction with the NPI team, support the generation of SIA with the
required Packaging input & lead/support all Packaging Transfer SIA. Determine
all factors impacting the overall business success within the supply chain so
that they are identified, analysed and all correct quantified for the SIA
document set. - Ensure packaging technical transfers are implemented in accordance with
established site-based success criteria for packaging technical - Lead/support the introduction of New Packaging Technology Platforms to
support the site operating model as appointed. - Drive the site Packaging related Problem-Solving Process. Drawing on best
practice from the packaging community and Haelon network of suppliers and
external experts. Define best practice when it doesn’t exist already and sharing
broadly within the packaging community to ensure knowledge transfer. - Co-ordinate and leverage the use of shared materials and/or suppliers with
other sites to maximize scale and efficiency to the business advantage. - Feed into the Process Prioritization listing to ensure all functions have
appropriate visibility of timelines for Packaging activities from both an
operational capacity requirements / support resource requirement
(QC/Reg/etc)
Impact of role on business objectives
The role needs to support and positively impact site business objectives in relation
to Packaging Process understanding, optimization and control to allow:
- The packaging operation to be compliant and validated
- The packaging operation is operating at best-in-class OEEs
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Responsibilities
- Perform duties in a compliant manner and behave in accordance with Site
SOP’s, Haleon EHS Standards and guidelines and relevant legal
requirements.
Quality Responsibilities
- Participate fully in the site’s quality initiatives and ensure that all relevant
quality standards are adhered to
Education / Experience Required
- 3 - 5 years of experience in technical discipline covering a range of Packaging formats applicable to FMCG or Pharmaceuticals / Medical Devices/Healthcare.
Area of Specialisation Pharmaceutical Science/ Engineering/ Medical device - Third Level qualification in an Engineering / Science/Packaging Material Science Discipline or an equivalent entry point.
- Member of Packaging Institute.
- Working knowledge on SAP platforms like M-ERP or CERPS will be an advantage
- Must have the experience and working knowledge of:
• Packaging equipment / Packaging components
• Technical Packaging transfers
Packaging NPI introduction
Other Skills
- Strong verbal and written English language skills.
- Experience working with client groups with ability to influence and challenge stakeholders at various levels.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and across a matrixed environment.
- Strong team building skills.
- Experience working in the technical function in a global organisation
- Good interpersonal skills demonstrated by creation of a network of key partners within technical and the business and the ability to bridge communications gap between Technical and non-Technical.
- Ability to prioritise multiple tasks within a project using project management skills
- Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint Experience
