About the Role
Looking to apply your skills in mine planning, regulatory navigation, and team leadership in a high-impact role? We have an exciting new opportunity for a Technical Mine Planning Manager to lead the strategic development and execution of mine pit drainage control and groundwater management plans that underpin sustainable, compliant, and forward-thinking mining operations.
As a key leader within the Medium Term Mine Planning team, you will be:
Driving the development of mine pit drainage control strategies and groundwater designs that support medium-term mine planning and regulatory compliance.
Managing the timeline and progress of drainage control plans, ensuring timely submission and approval by relevant authorities.
Designing and implementing a strategic roadmap for field studies, while personally conducting investigations to improve drainage control practices and outcomes. This will require collaboration with internal stakeholders, external consultants and authorities.
Developing 12–36 month pit layers and preliminary designs, optimising the sequencing of pit approvals to maintain a steady inventory of approved mining areas.
Coordinating with pit design and optimisation teams, aligning drainage control activities with mining schedules, and fostering strong communication within the technical mine planning group.

What you can bring to the role
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or Geology is essential; postgraduate qualifications such as a Master’s degree are highly regarded.
Demonstrated experience in mine planning, geology and surveying; both as an individual contributor and leading multi-disciplinary teams to similar outcomes.
A strong understanding of the regulatory approval processes relevant to mining in Western Australia.
Exceptional organisational skills with a proven ability to manage complex schedules and multiple concurrent projects.
Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly articulate regulatory requirements and operational constraints.
Familiarity with mine planning principles, especially concerning drainage control or landscape clearing, is highly regarded.
Willingness to travel weekly to Alcoa’s Mining Hub located in Pinjarra as needed to support team engagement.
