The Team Leader – Fleet Operations is responsible for leading day-to-day service and maintenance operations supporting electric utility transportation assets in the Indianapolis area. This is a non-union leadership position that directly oversees union-represented employees. This role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant operations while maintaining strong labor relations, operational efficiency, and high service standards. The ideal candidate is a field-oriented leader with utility experience, a strong safety mindset, and demonstrated success managing union workforces within a regulated environment.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Team Leader to lead day-to-day service operations at our Indianapolis location. This role is responsible for managing union-represented technicians, ensuring high-quality customer service, maintaining safety and compliance standards, and driving operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for developing teams.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for union-represented service personnel and field crews
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily work activities in alignment with collective bargaining agreements
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA, company safety programs, and regulatory requirements
  • Promote a strong safety first culture through coaching, observations, training, and accountability
  • Monitor service performance, productivity, outage response, and work quality
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for service issues and workforce concerns
  • Maintain positive labor relations, including day-to-day contract interpretation and issue resolution in collaboration with HR and Labor Relations
  • Support emergency response, storm restoration, and after-hours service coverage as needed
  • Partner with engineering, operations, fleet, and supply chain teams to improve service delivery
  • Track KPIs, workforce utilization, and budget adherence; recommend process improvements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in a service, maintenance, or operations environment
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role overseeing union employees
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and union work rules
  • Strong understanding of utility safety standards, regulatory compliance, and field operations
  • Proven leadership, conflict resolution, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with work management systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to meet company driving requirements

Preferred Experience

  • Electric, gas, or water utility operations and maintenance
  • Managing multi-skilled field crews in a regulated environment
  • Experience with emergency response, storm restoration, or 24/7 operations
  • Familiarity with utility service vehicles, fleet coordination, and field technology
  • and advancement opportunities within utility operations
