Scion is paving a path in student living and we’re seeking a talented Tax Senior to join us in executing our vision. This position will focus on leading income and state tax requirements.                                                 

The Tax Senior is a strategic leader who excels in a fast-paced, agile, corporate environment. This role demands principled thinking, well-honed accounting skills, a stubborn refusal to settle, and an appreciation for bold innovation.

This role will work full-time out of our office in Chicago, IL.

Your Responsibilities

  • Review tax workpapers & draft tax returns from third-party preparers
  • Review quarterly & annual REIT testing workpapers and supporting documentation
  • Assist with data collection and review for acquisitions and dispositions
  • Maintain tax log of filings and payments
  • Coordinate receipt of tax returns with third-party preparers and ensure timely filing
  • Review payment calculations for various tax filings to multiple jurisdictions
  • Collaborate with other departments (Accounting, FP&A, Capital)
  • Review quarterly depreciation
  • Provide annual investor taxable income estimates
  • Respond to investor questions
  • Monitor and respond to tax notices
  • Maintain real estate tax data in software
  • Manage and mentor members of tax team

What We Require

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting
  • Public Accounting experience preferred
  • Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA or CPA-candidate preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with state & local taxes preferred (sales & use, property tax, income/franchise)
  • Experience with Sage fixed asset software
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and work effectively
  • Ability to work independently

Operational Details

  • Job location is based at Scion’s Chicago corporate headquarters.
  • Working hours consist of standard daytime business hours.

The base salary range for this full-time position is base + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
