Tax Manager - Pass-Through Consulting

As a member of the Pass-Through Consulting Group (PSCG), you will be focused on the core tax issues that affect the heart of the firm’s client base and an increasingly important part of the national and global business world. The PSCG team works in concert with our local offices and M&A teams in assisting our clients with transactions, leads internal and external trainings and develops and deploys forward-looking internal and go-to-market solutions that help RSM lead in the middle market. 

 

As an experienced professional you will be focused on the core tax issues that affect the heart of the firm’s client base and an increasingly important part of the national and global business world. Pass-through entities range from billion-dollar investment funds to high-tech startups.  The PSCG team works in concert with our local offices and M&A teams in assisting our clients with transactions, leads internal and external trainings, develops and deploys forward looking internal and go-to-market solutions that help RSM lead in the middle market.  There are opportunities for client contact, interaction with leading members of the legal and accounting professions representing other parties in our clients’ transactions, and government officials charged with interpreting the law. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Interact directly with clients and their outside advisors to provide solutions to complex federal income tax issues related to partnerships 

  • Assist buyers and sellers with transaction tax structuring decisions, working in concert with the functional tax lead and outside advisors 

  • Analyze the impact of proposed or completed transactions including but not limited to partialcontributions, Revenue Ruling 99-5 and 99-6 transactions, debt financed distributions and disguised sales 

  • Manage multiple client engagements and supervise team members 

  • Research and analyze other issues related to partnership taxation including but not limited to qualified business income, the net investment income tax, passive losses, and carried interests 

  • Develop processes, technology, and other tools used by the PSCG team and the firm as a whole 

  • Mentor and develop engagement staff, providing leadership, counseling, career guidance, and guidance on issues related to work/life fit and retention 

  • Create and lead training sessions on partnership topics directed at clients, general practitioners and other partnership experts 

  • Act as a member of the engagement team for private equity funds, their portfolio companies and other crown jewel clients 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited university  

  • One of the following is required: an active CPA license in the state of residence or primary office; an active Enrolled Agent (EA) license; or an active Attorney license  

  • Minimum of five years of tax experience  

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel  

  • Demonstrated capacity to meet client service, quality, and performance expectations within applicable deadlines and in accordance with firm and client standards  

  • Strong communication skills, enabling clear, professional, and effective interaction with firm personnel and clients in person, by telephone, and through electronic and written means  

  • Effective project management skills, including managing multiple priorities, tasks, and projects simultaneously; meeting deadlines; and maintaining accuracy and quality of work in a fastpaced, client service environment  

  • Proven effectiveness working in a professional office environment and, as required by the role, at client sites, including prolonged computer use and operation of standard office equipment  

  • Commitment to maintaining a consistent onsite presence during core business hours, including regularly reporting to a firm office location and traveling to client sites as required, with access to reliable transportation  

  • Willingness to work extended and/or nonstandard hours during peak periods or as necessary to meet client, project, or firm business needs  

  • Experience with SCorporations and M&A or other transactional settings

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $120,000 - $240,900

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
