On the Human Health and Performance Contract 2 we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking a Systems Engineering Discipline Lead at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.

What You’ll Do:

In this role, you serve as a Human Health and Performance Contract 2 (HHPC2) first level manager assigned to the Engineering Department. You will develop and maintain successful professional relationships with stakeholders, peers, and direct reports. You are jointly responsible for ensuring the success for multiple Flight Hardware projects for the International Space Station, Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System and other Programs. You perform day-to-day KBR administrative supervisory duties and oversee personnel activities. You will guide development of all Systems Engineering related products including, but not limited to, Project Technical Requirements Specifications, Verification and Validation Documents, and Verification Closure Statements.  You will apply technical knowledge and operational concepts to make effective decisions.

You will:

  • Lead, manage, mentor, and supervise the HHPC2 Engineering Department Systems Engineering Team
  • Serve as a member of the Engineering Department Engineering Leadership Team with tasks including, but not limited to, review of project documentation, employee training and mentorship, definition of project data management, and participating in process improvement activities
  • Perform KBR administrative duties for KBR employees in the System Engineering Team including conflict resolution, problem solving, counseling, mentoring, timesheet review/approval, setting performance goals and conducting performance evaluations, and performing compensation evaluations/reviews
  • Define, coordinate, balance, and integrate technical and programmatic issues in an end-to-end manner to ensure that the total system satisfies the customer's requirements, expectations, and constraints within the allocated resources and with acceptable risk
  • Review, maintain, and optimize standard work instructions ensuring both process completeness and process speed
  • Support development and review of project cost estimates and work plans for fiscal budget cycle and new work
  • Support management meetings, pricing reviews, Risk and Opportunity Management Board meetings and monthly project status reviews
  • Collaborate with Task Order Managers to determine needed personnel resources/skill sets
  • Acquire and develop engineering talent through recruiting and hiring processes
  • Oversee employee performance and ensure the quality of discipline products
  • Develop and deploy system engineering relative training/education
  • Facilitate cross project coordination and knowledge sharing
  • Apply change management practices to evaluate impacts, communicate adjustments, and implement process controls that minimize disruption and maintain project alignment
  • Ensure that deliverables meet all applicable KBR and NASA quality standards

What You Bring:

You bring extensive experience in flight hardware requirements lifecycle management from concept and development through verification and validation, leading teams, and collaboration with peer managers. You rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  You bring a mature, professional judgment. You comply with KBR’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 15+ years’ experience in the NASA/JSC environment or equivalent aerospace industry experience
  • 5+ years’ experience executing systems engineering processes
  • 5+ years’ experience with the NASA Flight Hardware Development processes as outlined in EA-023, SA-WI-014, and/or NPR 7123.1
  • Familiarity with NASA contracts and processes desired
  • Experience leading a highly skilled engineering team in complex flight hardware development desired

  • Demonstrated experience with systems engineering processes under the Human and Health Performance Contract 2 highly desirable
  • Identification and implementation of process and quality improvements that benefit the customer and Engineering Team
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Effective at handling multiple tasks; flexible and respond quickly and positively to change
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate tasks and resolve issues within a contractor–customer environment
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding personnel
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to interact across organizations and all levels of personnel
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities to inspire and build a culture of safety and quality

What to Expect

This position is expected to be 100% on site and in person. Occasional travel may be required.
