System Engineer Mechatronics & Drive Systems – R&D System & Verification Engineering, Zurich (m/f/x)

Zurich Full time

Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips

Working for tomorrow today.

Around 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. As the centerpiece of every electronically controlled system, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives – whether in smartphones, smart homes or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in the field of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With high-precision lithography optics, photomask systems and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, increasingly powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, and thus plays a pivotal role in the age of micro- and nanoelectronics.

At Zeiss SMT Switzerland in Zurich, our team of 20 dedicated engineers drives innovation in the semiconductor industry. We develop and enhance electro-mechanical machines crucial for microchip production. If you're passionate about cutting-edge technology and want to make a significant impact, join us!

Your Role

  • You analyze complex requirement situations in demanding development projects, identify the crucial technical levers within the context of all constraints and boundary conditions, and effectively prioritize them.

  • You take on technical responsibility for either system/sub-system or unit-level requirements and work with interdisciplinary teams to drive their structured and goal-oriented solutions.

  • You design or help design the architecture of complex complete machines and mechatronic systems, including machine control software, and are taking responsibility for interfaces in distributed system landscapes.

  • You coordinate and orchestrate the collaboration of multidisciplinary teams from various engineering disciplines, ensuring a comprehensive technical overview on either system or sub-system (work package) level.

  • You help to define, manage, and monitor: design, development, and verification processes across all project phases, playing a supporting or central role in technical project management.

  • As the project scope grows, you take on the technical leadership of project or work-package teams consisting of analysis, testing, design, and development engineers.

  • You are responsible for specification and verification management, including proof of compliance, compliance assurance, and well-founded technical documentation, and you don’t shy away from identifying, designing, planning, executing/ordering, and presenting/defending the results of the verifications and tests that are necessary for important design decisions.

  • You identify technical risks early, support well-founded root cause analyses, and ensure the effective implementation of appropriate mitigation measures.

  • You accompany highly complex development projects from the early concept phase to series production maturity and make a significant contribution to the next generation of technological systems at the limit of feasibility.

Your Profile

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering (ideally with a focus on control or drive technology), Mechatronics, or a comparable engineering field

  • Several years of professional experience (approximately 3 years or more) as a systems engineer in the field of complex mechatronic systems, as well as experience in responsibility for work packages or technical sub-projects

  • In-depth knowledge in areas such as automation, drive and positioning systems, electrical controls HW(e-cabinets), actuators, or comparable high-tech applications (e.g., semiconductor technology, vacuum technology, aerospace, scientific instruments, or MedTech)

  • Knowledge of methods, processes, and tools of systems engineering, particularly requirements engineering, abstraction modeling, architecture work, device documentation management and technical project or work package management

  • Experience with relevant tools and technologies, e.g., PLM/requirements and documentation management tools (Polarion, Enterprise Architect), architecture and abstraction modeling tools, E-PLAN, and PLC-based control architectures (e.g., Siemens)

  • Very good English skills (at least C1), German skills are an advantage
