Job Summary

ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking an experienced Land Negotiator to join our dynamic Surface Land and Stakeholder Engagement team. This high-impact role requires the expertise to participate in the operational aspects of the acquisition and documentation of all surface land requirements for Alberta, with a primary focus in the Oil Sands.

This role is based out of our Calgary office on a Monday – Friday schedule and requires occasional flight and automobile ravel to remote locations.

Position Overview

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the surface land acquisition and engagement work for Surmont
  • Ensure compliance on all surface land related activities in Alberta
  • Oversee the Alberta Consultation process (ACO) for Alberta applications
  • In coordination with the Stakeholder Engagement team, attend community business meetings and events
  • Participant in industry committees within associations such as CAPP and Oilsands Alliance
  • Employ disciplined project management skills, preparing schedules, managing capital spent, reporting and evaluating risk on a project-by-project basis.
  • Manage complex land situations and lead negotiations associated with legacy liabilities throughout the province.
  • Serve as Corporate SME for Public Lands act, Water Act mad Surface Rights act.
  • Interpret Master Standards and Conditions (MSSC) to ensure timely project approvals.
  • Build and foster existing relations with peer companies’ representative to have open communication to benchmark and assess business opportunities.
  • Review and approve project designs through the survey approval process.
  • Collaborate with internal team members to strengthen work streams, decision matrixes and advance improved business processes.
  • Lead with ConocoPhillips key values by taking Ownership, Accountability, and Questioning
  • Travel occasionally to remote locations as required, including the Surmont site.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Environmental Sciences or related discipline or a land management related College diploma
  • 8-10 continuous years experience in a land acquisition and engagement position
  • Permanent Alberta Land Agents License
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Membership in good standing with a recognized land association
  • Basic knowledge of land operating systems
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time bases without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional designation (PMP)
  • Negotiation training
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite applications
