The purpose of this position is to serve as the Supervisor, Network Control Center. This work center is responsible for resolving shortfalls in daily operation, providing first line customer service for problem resolution, and providing technical solutions for new communications/computer requirements.

Major Duties:

  • Supervise and directs work of approximately 25 subordinates (ranging in grades from MSgt to SrA) through element chiefs. Serves as a team member and/or Project Manager responsible for planning, technical implementation, operation, maintenance, monitoting, and troubleshooting of base-wide small computer, network and C&I Systems. Plans for current and future technology integration; works issues for compatibility and standardization based on current and projected customer need. Prepares and presents briefings, writes correspondence, and develops and presents analyses and recommendations.

Examples of specialized experience includes Experience with a wide range of computer/telecommunications principles, concepts, and methodologies to accomplish work processes through the use of computer/telecommunications devices, methods, services and facilities; review, analyze, and resolve difficulty and complex communications problems. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Message Handling System (MHS) SMTP gateway software to administer and troubleshoot email connectivity Knowledge of Microsoft DOS, Windows 3.X, Workgroups, 95, NT, and UNIX operating systems to develop and implement connectivity between application programs across multiple computer platforms. Knowledge of Novell, Windows NT, and UNIX network operating systems to develop and implement connectivity between application programs across multiple computer platforms Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange email to develop and implement connectivity between email programs across multiple computer platforms Knowledge of Palindrome, ArcServe, and BANYA Vines network backup software and hardware to backup data Knowledge of x.400, x.500, Intelligent Messaging, and directory services protocols to develop, implement, and maintain email directory synchronization multiple computer platforms. Knowledge of TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocols to manage IP addresses and Domain Name Servers to maintain network operations Knowledge of various transmission media including UTP, fiber optics, and coaxial cable to install and troubleshoot network installations. Knowledge of Air Force computer, network systems development and maintenance documentation regulations necessary to document standard technical solutions and configuration and to establish appropriate policy, procedure and implementation criteria. Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite to perform everyday office activities, develop telecommunications and computer systems, and to ensure efficient utilization of computer resources. Skill at relating aspects and parts of a project to the overall needs of the organization in order to guide the group's efforts in accomplishing projects. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
