Support Worker
Location: Based in Torbay (TRI) – Shrublands House, 8 Morgan Avenue, Torbay, TQ2 5RS
Working hours: Full Time (37 Hours a week) Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
Contract: Fixed term (until March 31st 2026)
Salary: £24,243 - £28,930
This is an exciting opportunity to join Torbay Recovery Initiatives (TRI) a Support Worker. We work alongside people at some of the most challenging points in their lives, supporting them to make positive, lasting change.
About the role
In this role, you’ll work with a varied caseload, meeting individuals in different environments – from our shared office space to partner locations such as court, probation, and custody. Your work will directly support recovery journeys, improve health and well-being, and contribute to safer communities.
As a Support Worker, you will:
Provide practical and emotional support in line with personalised care and risk plans.
Support individuals engaging in detox programmes.
Deliver brief interventions in person and over the phone.
Share harm reduction advice – from safer drinking and injecting to overdose prevention.
Deliver structured psychosocial interventions 1:1 and support group sessions.
Offer guidance on specific substances and their associated risks.
Undertake risk assessments and contribute to risk management planning.
Safeguard vulnerable adults and children in line with best practice.
Collaborate with partners and colleagues to achieve the best outcomes.
Play a vital role in a multidisciplinary team, offering a varied treatment pathway.

About you
We’re looking for people who are passionate about making a tangible difference. Whether your background is in substance misuse, mental health, criminal justice, or you have a relevant academic foundation such as Criminology, Psychology, Law, or Sociology.
We also value:
Volunteering experience in related roles.
Strong case management skills.
Resilience and the ability to manage expectations in an emotionally demanding role.
Most importantly, you’ll bring empathy, a non-judgemental approach, and the drive to help people achieve recovery and stability.

TRI provide information, advice, and professional support to empower individuals to make healthier choices regarding alcohol and drug use. Our mission is to enhance safety and promote recovery through a comprehensive range of services, delivered by experienced local providers, ensuring no one is left without the assistance they need, no matter the complexity of their needs. This role will be based at Shrublands House in Torquay supporting a partnership approach to working between Devon Partnership Trust and TSDFT. The service is in partnership with Torbay Domestic Abuse Services and local Homelessness Hostel forming a Multi-Complex Needs Alliance called Growth In Action.
