Recovery Worker
Location: Based in Torbay (TRI) – Shrublands House, 8 Morgan Avenue, Torbay, TQ2 5RS
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm)
Contract: Fixed term (until 31st March 2026)

Salary: £25,110 - £32,090

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team within Torbay Recovery Initiatives (TRI), working at the intersection of substance misuse recovery and the criminal justice system. You’ll play a vital role in helping individuals move forward, making positive life changes that improve health, reduce re-offending, and support long-term recovery.

About the role
Working as part of the wider Torbay Alliance, Waythrough and key partners provide specialist drug and alcohol interventions for individuals entering treatment via criminal justice routes, in partnership with Devon Partnership Trust (DPT).

You’ll work with people referred by prisons, courts, police custody, probation, and other agencies, many of whom have offending behaviour linked to substance misuse. This is a hands-on, varied role, with opportunities to:

  • Hold a caseload and guide individuals through their personal recovery journey.

  • Complete assessments to determine treatment pathways or community sentence treatment requirements.

  • Engage with people in court, conduct in-reach work in prisons and police custody, and carry out outreach in the community.

  • Coordinate personalised treatment packages that address each person’s needs.

  • Work closely with agencies such as liaison and diversion services, housing, mental health teams, and homeless/vulnerability services.

  • Use creativity and flexibility to overcome engagement barriers.

Every day will bring new challenges and the chance to make a genuine impact.

Please note interviews will be held on an ongoing basis, so the vacancy may close early once the right candidate is found.

About you
You’re someone who thrives in a team environment but can also work independently, making decisions and building trust with people who may be at a turning point in their lives.

You’ll need to bring:

  • Experience in substance misuse, criminal justice, mental health, or a related support setting.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Confidence in partnership working and building relationships with agencies.

  • The resilience and adaptability to manage a varied caseload in an often fast-paced environment.

About us
TRI provide information, advice, and professional support to empower individuals to make healthier choices regarding alcohol and drug use. Our mission is to enhance safety and promote recovery through a comprehensive range of services, delivered by experienced local providers, ensuring no one is left without the assistance they need, no matter the complexity of their needs. This role will be based at Shrublands House in Torquay supporting a partnership approach to working between Devon Partnership Trust and TSDFT. The service is in partnership with Torbay Domestic Abuse Services and local Homelessness Hostel forming a Multi-Complex Needs Alliance called Growth In Action.
