We’re looking for a compassionate and motivated Support Worker to help create a safe, structured, and participant‑led environment aligned with TSA’s model of care.

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

About the Role

As a Support Worker, you will play a key role in providing high‑quality, person‑centred support to participants. You’ll help create a welcoming environment, assist with daily activities, and work alongside participants as they engage in their recovery and case plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a warm, responsive first point of contact for participants and address urgent needs.
  • Work with senior staff to identify and respond to potential high‑risk situations.
  • Facilitate daily programs and activities, including social groups, Spirit Lifter sessions, and information groups.
  • Support participants by providing information that helps assess and address their needs and circumstances.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships that encourage self‑determination and active participation.
  • Assist participants in implementing their case plans in line with TSA’s model of care.
  • Conduct activity risk assessments and communicate mitigation strategies to management.
  • Maintain clear communication and handovers with staff.
  • Perform practical tasks such as light cleaning, preparing rooms, and transporting participants to appointments.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date participant records in accordance with TSA standards.
  • Report incidents in required formats.

🎓 Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate or diploma relevant to the role.
  • Previous experience in the community services sector and/or on‑the‑job training.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
