SUPERVISORY TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS)

Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Faculty Development Flight. Supervises GS-11 Training Instructors and active duty military who instruct in initial skills, advanced, and/or supplemental training and provides administrative supervision as Course Director while performing instructor duties.

Major Duties:

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of Faculty Development instructors ensuring that initial skills/supplemental/advanced training complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the Faculty Development Flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic or advanced levels. Researches, develops, revises and recommends updates to Faculty Development course materials in accordance with established learning objectives.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction 1712 Series + IOR. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. ***This is a CCAF Position*** For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes those that demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices. Knowledge of instructional design, materials development for assigned courses and knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives. Knowledge of computer technology in relation to training programs for faculty, instructional methodology, technology insertion methods, equipment and techniques, communicative processes, developmental approaches, group dynamics, presentation delivery, human behavior and counseling techniques. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest. 2. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships. 6. Ability to analyze problems and develop appropriate solutions, to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
