Job Summary: Emergency Department and Psychiatric Acute Care Supervisory Social Worker position is located at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, a large complex Facility. The incumbent directs and supervises programs with multifaceted components that provides specialized, professional, therapeutic treatment services to Veterans in the VASNHS catchment area. The workload covers Clark County, Lincoln County, and Nye County, third largest county in the United States.

Major Duties:

  • Emergency Department and Psychiatric Acute Care Supervisory Social Worker will split time between providing Emergency Department, Psychiatric Acute Care Social Work, and LVR3 clinical services and the administrative tasks associated with program management. They will also serve as the weekend supervisory coverage for Behavioral Health Service. Clinical responsibilities include collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in the provision of comprehensive health care services to Veterans and ensure equity of access, service, and benefits to this population. The Social Worker collects, develops, and analyzes data using appropriate clinical indicators and monitoring activities to assure that the care provided is of the highest quality. The Social Worker provides consultation and education to VA staff and community-based service providers including medical residents and Social Work students. The Social Worker documents activities and interventions in Veteran's clinical record utilizing the electronic medical record and ensures appropriate hand off when transferring of Veteran care Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties may include but are not limited to: Direct administrative supervision of clinical and administrative staff, and trainees. Clinical supervisory oversight of all clinical staff, trainees, and volunteers assigned to perform duties with BHTCC social workers and ED Social Workers. Leads all responses to audits of the facility's suicide prevention efforts including visits by the Office of Inspector General, Joint Commission and others. Leads all responses to external inquiries or complaints relating to suicide prevention such as those from the White House, local Congressional Representatives, Veterans Benefits Administration and others. Responsible for all Issue Briefs within the VASNHS related to self-directed violence. Responsible for leading the program's strategic approach for both community education and training and within the VASNHS. Regular training of staff to assure that they have the tools to carry out their daily functions, management of all team staff including trainees and are considered a content expert in suicide and the prevention of suicide. Ensures efficient operation of the Psychiatry Acute Care social workers and Emergency Department Social Workers. Position has broad program management responsibilities, which include the operation and management of key clinical, training, or administrative programs. Responsible for timely completion of all program evaluations and documents required by the VA Medical Center, VISN, and VACO, ensuring compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Serves on VA Medical Center, VISN, and/or national VA committees or task forces. Represents the VA Medical Center at professional/program community group/events and committees and conferences/meetings with higher-ranking managers, supervisors, and staff from other disciplines or work units., Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Full-time, will include Saturdays and Sundays; schedule will be discussed during interview Compressed/Flexible: Authorized Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.. Qualifications: Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure: - You must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Experience: Experience Requirement: You must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to: Serving as the sole practitioner in a specialty program and typically provide direct patient care services in the program area; oversees the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation, and prepare reports and statistics; may be responsible for the program's budget, developing and monitoring staff compliance with practice, standards and guidelines on documentation, workload, data entry, ethical practice and service delivery; provides analysis and evaluation of clinical program data and computerized programs to identify system-wide trends and needs to enhance the quality of service. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. In addition to above experience, you must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility. Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care. Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action. Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget. Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
