SUPERVISORY SCHOOL AGE CARE PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the School Age Care program; planning, developing, organizing, and overseeing the long-range and day-to-day operation of a comprehensive school-age child care program consisting of such activities as before and after school care, full day care/camp, and school holiday care/camp for youth 5-12 years of age.

Major Duties:

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement activities, programs, and special events, consistent with program objectives and in accordance with health, safety, and security standards for the School Age Care program. Research, interpret, analyze and apply applicable Department of Department (DoD), Air Force and national accreditation guidelines and standards. Hear and resolve employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints to higher level management. Initiate action to correct performance or conduct problems. Work with Training and Curriculum Specialist to ensure all training is accomplished to include child abuse identification, positive guidance and discipline techniques, program leadership, developmentally appropriate activities, developmentally appropriate environment, accountability, and emergency procedures. Coordinate regularly with base agencies such as Family Advocacy, Public Health, Safety, Fire Protection, Human Resources, Wing Safety, and Medical Advisor to ensure program is governed appropriately.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements for 1701 series & Group Standard for Professional & Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level (or other equivalent pay systems) in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position being filled. Specialized experience is experience gained while assisting in planning, implementing, coordinating, and administering a School Age Care Program by assessing participant's needs and interest to motivate participants and to coordinate between different support elements and improve the physical, social, and mental well-being of young children. OR EDUCATION: Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, OR LL.M in photography, radio or television production, motion picture production, or other fields related to the position. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. Knowledge of child and youth development theory, methodology, and practices relating to physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development of children and youth. 2. Knowledge of Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), 4-H, and Council on Accreditation (COA) standards. 3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures including National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Food Services regulations, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and requirements, and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Playground guidelines. 4. Skill in compiling and composing both quantitative and narrative reports, based on analyzing data and circumstances. 5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to large sized organization. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 7. Ability to supervise. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". In accordance with (IAW) Public Law 101-647 Section 231, Public Law 102-190, Section 1094, and DoD Instruction 1402.05, background checks are required. DD Form 2981 Basic Criminal History and Statement of Admission, Installation Records Check, FBI fingerprint, and Tier 1 with a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) checks will be completed on any person selected for this position. Renewal every five years of the Installation Records, FBI Fingerprint and SCHR is required with annual review of DD Form 2981. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires sitting, walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying such items as activity and recreational supplies and equipment. The work requires interaction with school age children in activities, sitting on the floor, carrying children up to 45 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, and being able to evacuate children in the event of an emergency.
