Major Duties:

  • (Continued from Summary): - the military installation. Ensure the safety and security of federal property, personnel, and interests. This includes protecting federal buildings, facilities, and infrastructure, as well as enforcing federal laws and regulations within the jurisdiction. Additionally, the role involves supervising officers, and effectively leading and managing the DVC personnel to ensure the safety and security of Scott Air Force Base. Duties: Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of Security Forces, ensuring that the Dixon Visitor Center complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Performs and enforces the full range of police officer duties within the military installations. Performs as the Defense Biometric Identification System administrator for the installation.

Qualifications: (Continued from Conditions of Employment): Subject to an annual duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard. Successful completion of the initial formal law enforcement training school is required, as determined by the functional unit. A certificate from a federally recognized Law Enforcement Academy is preferred. Responsibilities associated with this position may necessitate occasional shift work, requiring the employee to operate beyond standard duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and potential overtime. Mandatory for the incumbent is the obtainment and maintenance of first responder training/certifications, including CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid, with a requirement for annual renewal. The incumbent must possess the ability to obtain and sustain access to criminal information systems as an integral part of the job requirements. The work involves regular and recurring physical exertion, including running in pursuits or emergency responses, extended periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. Such exertions are part of responding to alarms and walking foot patrols in and around buildings. Common physical characteristics and abilities, dexterity, and strength to pursue and detain uncooperative suspects are essential. Additionally, the position requires the ability to employ "infantry" small unit tactics, involving fire and maneuver with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions while wearing protective gear for extended periods. The incumbent should also be capable of employing "Active Shooter" response tactics as a member of a small team. Adherence to uniform and applicable dress and appearance standards is a fundamental requirement for this position. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR), Police Series, 0083. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level for Current and Prior Federal employees in the Federal service, or one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service for External applicants. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of base agencies, including emergency services, intelligence units, and public affairs offices, to enhance security and respond effectively to incidents. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. Current and Prior Federal: One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. External Applicants: One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of base agencies, including emergency services, intelligence units, and public affairs offices, to enhance security and respond effectively to incidents. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures; technical, non-supervisory functions aimed at maintaining the safety and security of military installations and personnel. Responsible for conducting security assessments, implementing security protocols, and utilizing specialized equipment and technology to detect and deter threats. Conduct training exercises and drills to enhance assigned personnel skills and readiness to respond effectively to various security situations. Ability to carrying out operational and technical tasks to support the mission of protecting military assets and ensuring the safety of personnel. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
