Job Summary: You will serve as a SUPERVISORY MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the Surface Ship Auxiliary/Hydraulics Branch (Code263), Fluid/Mechanical Engineering and Planning Division (Code 260), Office if Chief Engineer (240), Engineering and Planning Department (200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major Duties:

  • You will provide technical assistance in troubleshooting any and all systems, equipment, and components related to marine and mechanical machinery.
  • You will be responsible for furnishing all design and test engineering services, waterfront support, material procurement information and design specifications concerning systems/components on various classes of naval ships.
  • You will be responsible for developing solutions to specific problems involving marine and machinery equipment design within the Design Division.
  • You will handle all cases of minor disciplinary nature of Surface Mechanical Branch employees.
  • You will coordinate with work of the other Design Division Supervisors and will attend conferenced, representing the Design Division in your area of technical responsibility.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying mechanical engineering concepts, principles, methods, precedents and techniques, including design experience and technical knowledge of engineering aspects unique to nuclear-powered subs and aircraft carriers. Experience evaluating and applying the latest developments and techniques in solving problems and recommend solutions. Experience using various databases, including material information databases and the ability to determine cost and availability of material. Experience making plans, setting objectives, and making decisions pertaining to mechanical engineering and related engineering fields including electrical and structural.
