Job Summary: Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

Major Duties:

• Serves under the supervision of the Associate Warden. Responsible for the preparation and serving of all inmate meals (to include medical, religious and regular diets) on a daily basis. Helps develop, maintain, and monitor goals and objectives established to accomplish the Food Service mission of the Bureau of Prisons. Must know and understand the methods and objectives of custody and discipline as it applies to inmates and must also be familiar with Bureau and institutional policies, rules, procedures and practices. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications: To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. GS-12: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. OR Experience: GS-11 and GS-12: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Such experience must have demonstrated: GS-11: Experience in the principles, practices and procedures of food service to perform and direct the specialized activities of the food program regular, medical and religious diets. Experience in procurement regulations and budget management. Experience in supervising and training other personnel in preparing and serving food. Experience establishing standards of sanitation, developing menus and evaluating food quality. GS-12: Experience in managing a large food service operation, ensuring food is prepared in compliance with the best cooking, baking and meat cutting principles and that food is palatable, of proper consistency and temperature. Experience in setting up work schedules for subordinates and inmates working in scheduled shifts. Experience in supervising the operation of a large subsistence storeroom plus large meat and vegetable coolers. Experience in interviewing and assigning workers to specific details taking into regard their experience, interests and abilities. OR Combination of Education and Experience: GS-11 Only: A combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
