Job Summary: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Major Duties:
- The Supervisory Dietitian (Informatics) oversees the Nutrition Communication Center (NCC), providing administrative and technical supervision to NCC staff while ensuring effective workflow and personnel management. The role represents the NCC on projects, committees, and workgroups, serving as the subject matter expert in nutrition informatics and food service technology. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing technology solutions within Nutrition and Food Services to enhance operations and support both employees and Veterans. The incumbent independently evaluates and applies existing and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency within the service. Major duties include but are not limited to: Plans, directs, and evaluates the workload, performance, and competency of all subordinate Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) staff, functioning independently in all professional and technical responsibilities. Provides administrative and technical supervision to NCC personnel, ensuring efficient operations, workflow coordination, and compliance with organizational policies. Utilizes available technology and informatics tools to enhance productivity, accuracy, and service delivery across Nutrition and Food Services (NFS). Independently manages VHA-supported and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software used for food operations, meal service, and patient meal management. Maintains and updates ingredient databases, recipes, nutritional information, and menus within designated informatics systems. Oversees technological systems supporting meal production, meal service workflows, and temperature control monitoring. Leads the facility menu committee and ensures all recipes are standardized, properly costed, and aligned with budgetary requirements. Develops, revises, and signs menus in accordance with VA guidelines, patient preferences, and cultural or religious considerations; completes nutrient analysis for all regular and modified menus. Creates and maintains training materials, reference guides, and education resources related to NCC operations and NFS informatics systems. Manages NCC productivity reports and completes required audits, developing action plans to address deficiencies when needed. Coordinates and maintains downtime procedures for NCC systems, ensuring readiness and accuracy during system outages. Provides comprehensive training for NFS staff on computer systems, informatics tools, menu software, and workflow applications. Collaborates with clinical nutrition and NFS leadership to improve Veterans' dining experiences and support patient satisfaction initiatives. Serves as the department's Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC), acting as the liaison between NFS, OIT, administration, and clinical staff regarding technology processes and system issues. Manages and updates the service SharePoint site and prepares periodic activity reports, including recommendations to improve operations and meet regulatory standards. Qualifications: Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements. Grade Determinations: GS-11 Supervisory Dietitian (Informatics) Experience Requirement: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, you must possess at least 1 year of experience as an RDN/RD equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) which demonstrates the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Skill in managing computer software programs relative to food service systems. Skill in applying nutritional knowledge to develop menus ensuring nutritional standards are met. Skill in developing training and reference materials. Skill in evaluating data to improve outcomes. Skill in providing training related to food service systems technology. Skill in collaborating with stakeholders. Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance.
