Job Summary: Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as the department head over the Correctional Services department at a Bureau of Prisons federal prison camp. Serves as the resident expert on all custodial and security questions arising at the facility, and has full and final technical responsibility when problems occur during the course of any given shift. Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and material, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control in his assigned areas. Also inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee/inmate relations, and overall program coordination. Serves as an advisor to the Warden and the correctional staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. Must integrate these policies and procedures into the overall operations of the facility, as well as the correctional department, and keep management advised of activities effecting institution programs. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications: To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders. Experience preparing quarterly assignment rosters. Experience conducting internal audits of all areas in an institution. Experience providing guidance and counseling to employees. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
