Job Description Summary

The Supervisor, Maintenance Engineering is responsible for facility and production equipment, ensuring that the assigned site is in compliance with state and federal regulations. This role is responsible for prioritizing all work activities and delegating tasks to the appropriate team member(s). The Supervisor is expected to react to general business needs that may impact the site.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Accountable for all manufacturing and facility maintenance activities. Facility maintenance activities include, but are not limited to, boilers, cooling towers, chillers, and HVAC. Manufacturing maintenance activities include, but are not limited to, manufacturing equipment preventative/corrective maintenance, development and implementation of corrective actions and manufacturing equipment vendor relationships.  Provide technical expertise regarding operation and engineering improvements for maintenance activities. This individual is responsible for maintenance planning in the Webster Groves manufacturing facility and office space. Each of these maintenance planning activities require the coordination of multiple skilled crafts and several operating and service departments. This role will include direct supervision of hourly maintenance technicians and contractors as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides overall leadership and supervision of all maintenance personnel including periodic employee performance reviews and appraisals.
  • Ensure compliance with government agencies for current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)  and safety compliance as applicable (.i.e. OSHA, FDA, DEA, DOT, EPA, and any others that may apply).
  • Assist in the development, evaluation monitoring of process improvements initiatives for maintenance department.
  • Coordinate with operations to develop and implement efficiency gains within the maintenance department.
  • Responsible for operation, inspection and maintenance of all facility and manufacturing equipment
  • Responds to facility and manufacturing equipment problems by directing troubleshooting initiatives to maintenance mechanics to isolate causes and provide repairs, purchase parts, and lead RCA activities to identify root cause.
  • Reviews and manages work instructions, SOPs, perventative maintenance activities, etc.as they pertain to facility and manufacturing maintneance activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship by effectively communicating site / company safety, quality, and environmental policies / programs.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/ OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as technical resource to manufacturing regarding engineering / operational solutions, equipment improvements, and emergency repairs.
  • Serve as technical resource to facilities regarding engineering / operational solutions, equipment improvements, and emergency repairs.
  • Collaborate with corporate engineering on capital expenditure work occurring on the facility or in manufacturing, along with acting as project manager for certain facility-related projects
  • Monitor the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and use a reliability improvement tool; evaluate equipment histories, modify and improve preventive maintenance system, track and assess key maintenance metrics.
  • Ensure technical documentation on all equipment is up to date, including drawings, BOM, P&IDs, and spare parts lists for facility and manufacturing equipment. 
  • Act as a point person for management of change approval on new and modified equipment/processes, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education required/ preferred:

B.S in mechanical engineering or related field preferred.  Equivalent progressive work experience in maintenance functions to include electrical and mechanical technology or associates degree in related technical field will be considered.

Experience:

Minimum of three to five years’ experience in supervisory role within a maintenance department is preferred.  Prefer chemical background or industrial experience.

  • Troubleshooting skills are a must, particularly of mechanical systems
  • HVAC experience is desired

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

  • Reports to Manager, Plant Operations.
  • Direct reports: maintenace mechanics and facitilites supervisor.
  • Interacts with SpecGx leadership and corporate personnel.  Collaborates extensively with manufacturing staff.
  • Accountable for outside contractors, vendors and equipment manufacturers as they pertain to utilities and manufacturing activities

WORKING CONDITIONS:

50% work in the field; 50% office environment.
