This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidates is expected to report to the Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.

The Role:

Are you interested in being part of one of the most exciting design studios in the world? Based in our Warren, Michigan Design headquarters, where the fusion of Art, Design and Technology come together, General Motors Creative Design North America has exciting opportunities for digital sculptors.

GM Design's Sculpting organization, is seeking a studio technical sculpting expert that supports the surface development for each vehicle brand. In this role, you will leads problem solving with design and engineering stakeholders by providing technical expertise and guidance. You will mentors others in efficient methods for developing aesthetically correct surfaces, integrating proper build techniques and creating workflows. You will help the team consistently obtain surface execution excellence. and reinforce surface quality assessments and evaluation techniques.

What You'll Do:

  • Guides surface creation of high-quality aesthetics for all surfaces throughout the GVDP

  • Active participant in reviews. Contributes expert aesthetic judgement with the studio design team by offering 3D solutions

  • Comprehend and execute models to program timelines and all relating model quality requirements with speed and accuracy.

  • Assists in developing solutions to engineering and design problems

  • Work with Sculpting Managers to assess individual skill levels and provide distinctive coaching linked to personal career development. Drive continuous improvement.

  • Attend multiple surface reviews within the brand providing feedback and implementation of design direction. Identify areas that are executed well and those that can be improve

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): 

  • A portfolio is not required but if you are able to submit a portfolio or work samples please following the instructions below

  • 10+ years of experience using creative digital sculpting tools, preferably Alias,  to develop surfaces that meet design and engineering specification.

  • Highly skilled with sketch interpretation/ability to translate design input into 3D models.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred/equivalent industry related experience considered

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Demonstrates creative ability with supporting 3D portfolio

  • Solid understanding of design and sculpting principles including proportion, line and

  • surface

  • 3D Computer Modeling/Animation skills

  • Portfolio submission for consideration
