Job Description
The Assistant Sports Editor is a position meant to help the news editor in the curation of content for The Sagebrush's sports section in any given week. Applicants should be experienced with sports writing and have a passion for collegiate athletics, especially at the University of Nevada, Reno, be willing to work on a team, and be comfortable working under deadline pressure.
Applicants should also have a basic understanding of media ethics and media law, especially as they pertain to reporting on a college campus. All applicants must submit 3-5 clips with their application. Clips can be work samples, 1000 words or less, or any other medium which shows the applicant’s talents. Essays will not be accepted.
Responsibilities
Assist in writing and editing content for the sports section
Attend weekly staff meetings
Ensure all content is posted to the Nevada Sagebrush website and Instagram in a timely manner.
Complete a weekly check-in worksheet
Attend monthly meetings with Student Media advisor
Required Qualifications
Be a student of the University of Nevada, Reno.
Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 credits unless a graduating senior.
Have strong leadership and good news-judgment,
Must have experience with AP style and writing for print or online
Have experience writing headlines
Have a strong voice within articles and work well under deadline.
Should be familiar with current Sagebrush work (articles, multimedia, social media)
Should have experience with social media and Word Press
