Job Summary
The Minority Engineering and Science Improvement Program STEM-Squared (MSEIP-STEM2) program tutors will provide individual and group tutoring (Face-to-Face and Online) on entry-level or barrier courses such as Calculus I, II and III, University Physics I and II, Chemistry I, Ordinary Differential Equation, Linear Algebra, and Engineering Foundations, Engineering Static and Dynamic and other advanced Engineering courses as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct individual or small group- tutoring sessions in which each student is actively involved in exploring and learning the material.
Review course concepts, provide alternate explanations, and offer multiple strategies for reviewing and reinforcing information.
Help students to identify resources and to develop problem-solving strategies they can use when studying on their own.
Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Must have an A or B in the class to be tutored: Calculus I, II, and III, University Physics I and II, Chemistry I, Ordinary Differential Equation, Linear Algebra, and other engineering courses.
Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
Preferred Experience and Education
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Minimum 3.0 GPA.
Previous tutoring experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to prepare and present tutorials for assigned Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry classes. Assist students in their class work and exam preparation.
Strong computer knowledge in engineering software.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with university students, staff, and the general public.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
