Job Description

The Social Support Services Coordinator provides management and oversight for programming, referrals, and mentoring of students who are faced with legal, medical, housing and financial challenges. The coordinator will develop relationships with external agencies to assist students with matters that could hinder their college success. The coordinator provides consultation and guidance to participants; consults with faculty and staff regarding student needs, interventions and progress; arranges workshops, presentations, documents and monitors student progress, assists with providing training for peer mentors and participants, as well as monitors the academic progress of participants and mentors.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Panthers Fostering Success (PFS) students who have aged out of the foster care system to ensure they are provided with optimal support to positively effect academic and social aspects for each student.  Collect data, provide monitoring and support related to student success.  Provide reports on the progress and success of students, and assertively follow up with students offering necessary support and resources.

  • Maintain Dean of Students case management responsibilities, including documentation and appropriate follow up.

  • Keep abreast of laws, regulations, and policies associated with foster, adopted, and homeless students.

  • Work with external agencies to develop a path for students who need legal, medical, housing, and/or financial assistance.  Provide follow-up and follow-through support services for these students.

  • Develop and administer programming for PFS students and develop and maintain curriculum for the Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program to assist with student accountability and success.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Four years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.

  • Two years of case management experience.

  • One or more years of experience working with foster care programs or child protection services.

  • Two or more years of experience working in a student affair, student services, student advocate, or student enrollment in a college/university setting with students.

  • Knowledge of social service programs for young adults.

  • Knowledge of social challenges facing college students.

  • Ability to interpret local, state, and federal guidelines of social service agencies.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with internal and external partners.
