This is a/an 83.3% full-time equivalency (FTE) job with months off. The number of months off will be determined by the position's FTE percentage. The timing of months off will be set to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State Hazleton is seeking a Student Health Services Nurse. The Nurse plays a vital role in supporting student health, wellness, and success through direct care, education, and outreach.
Reporting to the Director of Student Services and Engagement, the RN duties include, but may not be limited to:
- Provide compassionate, high-quality health services to students through in-person and telephone consultations.
- Assess patient needs, follow nurse protocols, offer self-care guidance, and refer to a clinician or emergency care when appropriate.
- Educate students on health promotion, prevention, and wellness topics; support outreach efforts and wellness programming.
- Coordinate campus health initiatives such as flu/immunization clinics, blood drives, and wellness events.
- Collaborate with the part-time physician assistant and consult with physicians as needed for medication orders or care outside nurse protocols.
- Communicate test results, immunization requirements, and follow-up instructions to students clearly and confidentially.
- Support student immunization compliance and student health insurance processes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in accordance with clinical and university standards.
- Advocate for students by listening to concerns, providing support, and connecting them to appropriate resources.
- Participate in quality improvement, training, and contribute to updates of clinical protocols and procedures.
- Serve as a professional resource and role model; assist with onboarding new staff and student workers
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain clinical knowledge and best practices.
This position requires a nurse capable of working autonomously while collaborating with University Health Services and a consulting physician as needed. Other duties include representing Health Services on campus committees and at special events, data collection, and reporting to University Health Service annually.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Associate Degree
4+ years of relevant experience
Required Certifications:
Registered Nurse - Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing
Additional Preferred Education, Experience, or Certifications:
Nursing experience in college health, emergency room, public health, and school health. Experience and competency in health education and health promotion programs and activities. Compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and FERPA regulations. Demonstrate knowledge of educational institution nurse protocols, policies, and procedures.
Additional Required Competencies:
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania is required. CPR/AED certification required.
BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES
This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
