Structural Engineer Steel

Veghel Full time

Job Title

Structural Engineer Steel

Job Description

Are you an experienced structural engineer, able to work both on projects as well as improve the overall use of steelworks in our designs? Do you excel in managing internal and external partners, and reviewing and challenging their work? Then apply now to become our Structural Engineer within our Warehouse Engineering department!

Your position

As a Structural Engineer  you are a member of the Steelwork Competence Team and report to the "Team Leader Steelwork". Your primary responsibility is to create (or in case of outsourcing: lead and coordinate) the structural design of the platforms and steelworks needed for the Material Handling Systems. This includes the specification of the structures and all building and safety aspects that belong to the items like flooring, access-systems (stairs and ladders) and guarding (railing and fencing). Secondly you will supervise the work of subcontractors and the quality of the steelworks they supply.

In projects, you will work independently and report to Project-manager. Due to the dynamic and multi-disciplinary environment, you will work and align with internal project-teammembers (managers, engineers, buyers) and external parties (customers, engineering companies, steel manufactures). You will be responsible to achieve the best overall solution for both Vanderlande and the customer, while considering planning and costs as well.

In this demanding role, you will work on several projects simultaneously while having tight schedules.

Your tasks/responsibilities:

  • Work out and recommend technical, cost-effective solutions, or as the case may be, structural design alternatives.
  • Represent the interests of "steel" in a highly demanding multi-disciplinary project environment.
  • Perform preliminary calculations for estimating steel sections
  • Prepare estimates of steel tonnages, quantities and associated costs
  • Collect all relevant technical information (including, for example, local legislation, standards and earthquake risk indicators) for sending RFQs to suppliers.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders with regard to the technical detailing and construction of structural steelwork on site (serving as a sparring partner for sales, engineering and project teams) and monitor the quality of work and delivered products.
  • Coordinate lay-out engineers (internal and external) in the production of 2D drawings and 3D models of structural steelwork.
  • Provide up-to-date, accurate and complete reports on time at your own initiative.

Your department

The Project Engineering department is responsible for the execution of projects in which the different components (mechanical and controls) of our material handling systems are implemented. Working under the supervision of a Project Leader, the Structural Engineer is part of a multidisciplinary team of Engineers.

Your profile:

  • A Higher Vocational Education Certificate in Structural / Civil Engineering – or other relevant field of study.
  • At least three years of working experience in (steel) structural engineering.
  • Expertise in the technical aspects of steel structures and building works.
  • Experience with using drawing software (Autocad 2D/3D, Tekla) and structural analysis software (SCIA)
  • Willing to travel and work on site (on average for 10% of the time)
  • Good communicator and persuasive, steady specialist and lead engineer
  • Analytical, cost-aware, result-driven and organizes efficiently
  • Teamplayer
