Job Description

We’re looking for a Structural Analysis Engineer on our Structural Analysis team within the Trek Performance Research engineering group. The focus for this role will be using FEA and structural analysis tools to analyze bicycle frames and components. You will be responsible for leveraging your structural analysis expertise to make design recommendations for both concept assessment and detailed design with minimal oversight.

You will work in a cross-functional environment, collaborating with product development teams (bike frames, components, accessories, etc) and other Trek Performance Research engineers to develop best-in-class bicycle products. Many of the problems we work on are open-ended and ill-defined, requiring engineering judgment, creativity, and comfort making assumptions with imperfect information. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy shaping the problem as much as solving it.

Flexible start date in late Spring / early Summer 2026. Candidates with the ability to work in the Waterloo, WI headquarters at least one to two days per week are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understand design requirements and utilize them to define scope of analysis
  • Use FEA and Structural Analysis expertise to carry out structural concept assessments
  • Determine appropriate approach, tools, and effort level for concept assessments
  • Build FE models from provided CAD geometry to conduct detailed structural analysis
  • Coordinate with design engineers to perform structural analysis of frames and components within project timelines
  • Translate analysis results into design recommendations based on design requirements
  • Advocate for structurally sound design decisions in environments where analysis guidance may be constrained by manufacturing realities, industrial design priorities, or supplier capabilities
  • Work iteratively with designers, suppliers, and engineers to translate analysis insight into feasible next steps, rather than expecting immediate adoption
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required to meet project needs and support continuing education (less than 10%)

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Engineering or comparable degree
  • 3+ years of professional experience using commercial FEA software. Graduate study with a focus in structural analysis or engineering mechanics can replace professional experience
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with bladder molded laminate composite manufacturing methods and the analysis of structures made from them
  • Able to make design recommendations with minimal oversight, while actively seeking peer input and cross‑functional perspective when it improves outcomes
  • Must be able to work well in a diverse design group
  • Able to communicate and present technical ideas to a non-technical audience
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions without direct authority
  • Thrives in environments where problems, processes, and tools are evolving, and enjoys improving them
  • Curious always learning mindset
  • Live or be willing to relocate to the Waterloo, WI area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in applicable field
  • Specific experience in ABAQUS is a plus
  • Experience developing material allowables for laminated composites
  • Experience using parameterized or composite optimization software (e.g. HEEDS, HyperX)
  • Experience with non-linear, dynamic, and/or explicit modeling
  • Familiarity with python or other programming languages
  • Interest in developing lightweight tools, scripts, or workflows that improve analysis efficiency or communication
  • Experience (or strong interest) in evolving analysis methods to better align with manufacturing and design realities, not just idealized models
  • Personal or professional interest in cycling, bicycles, or the outdoor industry, and motivation that comes from seeing products used in the real world
