Join Intel's Storage Software Development Team as an Intern
We are looking for a motivated Storage System Software Engineering Intern to join our Storage Software Development Team within Intel's Software and AI Group.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of cutting-edge Storage and Memory Technologies for next-generation PCs.
What You'll Do
As a Storage Software Engineer Intern you will:
- Design and implement software and firmware for technologies such as Storage, SSDs, Memory, Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) and TSE=Intel® Total Storage Encryption
- Software-Hardware integration and co-debug
- Develop Intel silicon firmware to enable new storage-related technologies.
- Participate in debugging, integration, and validation of software and firmware components.
- Gain hands-on experience with technologies that will reach the market in the coming years - including NVMe, RAID, SATA, AHCI, Storage Security, Caching, and advanced Memory systems.
- Work on early design and implementation phases of upcoming Intel product generations to create modern storage solutions.
- Collaborate with top professionals across global teams who are passionate about innovation and excellence.
What You will Learn and Practice
This internship will give you practical exposure to every aspect of modern software development, including:
- Writing software and firmware code in C, C++ and Csharp.
- Applying analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to real engineering challenges.
- Building teamwork and communication skills through daily collaboration.
Technical Scope
- Develop and debug storage software in C++.
- Develop and debug firmware in C.
- Contribute to Storage UI development in C++ and CSharp.
- Integrate firmware and software with other Intel PC platform components - including CPU, Chipset, BIOS, and Windows and Linux OS.
- Implement unit tests and ensure software quality through continuous integration and peer reviews.
- Contribute technical documentation and provide engineering support for released products.
- Work in an agile environment, participating in planning, reviews, and retrospectives during short sprint cycles.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Good knowledge of C and C++
- University-level programming skills in CSharp or Python
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (at least one year of academic progression remaining).
- Strong engineering mindset and motivation to learn new technologies.
- Passion for software and hardware integration, which is at the core of Intel's technology and innovation.
- Methodical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of software validation concepts, including unit, functional, integration, exploratory, performance, and scalability testing.
- Practical knowledge of debugging techniques, object-oriented programming, driver development, and remote debugging.
- Some exposure to firmware development or debugging.
- Experience in Windows or Linux kernel development.
- Familiarity with distributed and parallel programming.
- Additional experience with Python programming beyond academic coursework.

The Software and AI (SAI) Team drives customer value by enabling differentiated experiences through leadership AI technologies and foundational software stacks, products, and services. The group is responsible for developing the holistic strategy for client and data center software in collaboration with OSVs, ISVs, developers, partners and OEMs. The group delivers specialized NPU IP to enable the AI PC and GPU IP to support all of Intel's market segments. The group also has HW and SW engineering experts responsible for delivering IP, SOCs, runtimes, and platforms to support the CPU and GPU/accelerator roadmap, inclusive of integrated and discrete graphics.
