The Opportunity:

As the Stationary Engineer 2 – Maintenance, you work under general supervision to perform a wide range of duties in support of Facilities Operations Steam Plants. You participate in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all plant equipment and systems, including high‑pressure boilers, electrical generators, water treatment systems, condensate distribution equipment, pumps, air compressors, steam line operating components, and the computer‑controlled systems that support plant operations.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary: $5,666 to $6,576 | Range 53G (Steps G-M) | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems OR Certificate of completion of an Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college AND two (2) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems OR one (1) year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1 OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Boiler Operator, First Class license within six (6) months of hire date.

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED training are required annually.

  • Must be able to work a rotating shift or relief operations duty as necessary based on Plant operational needs.

  • Ability to respond to worksite on a 24-hour basis.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering education and/or degree.

  • Recent experience as a high pressure steam boiler operator in a steam plant utilizing a computer operated, distributed control system.

  • Recent experience operating lMW or larger gas or diesel-fired electrical generators.
