About the role:
The staff specialist role is an essential member of the Alcohol and Drug Service multidisciplinary team, providing clinical leadership and promoting patient safety and quality. The position provides specialist care to inpatients and outpatients under the care of the alcohol and drug service, as well as consultation care to patients under other services. In addition, the position may provide Addiction Medicine specialist care via telehealth clinics to nominated rural LHDs within NSW.
The position is integral to the effective delivery of the Service’s teaching and supervision of junior medical officers and medical students and clinical governance processes. The staff specialist will provide clinical leadership and expertise across a range of substance use disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings, and via video teleconferencing, including assessment, pharmacotherapy, withdrawal, post-withdrawal care and referral and liaison with key treatment providers (including GP’s).
The staff specialist will also provide state-wide Addiction Medicine expertise through participation in the Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service (DASAS) roster.
