Digi 2.0 – NetBank Next | Transform the Future of Digital Banking
We’re reimagining digital banking from the ground up.
As part of Digi 2.0 and the NetBank Next program, we’re rebuilding the digital bank experience for over 9 million Australians. This is a Greenfield transformation focused on delivering resilient, decoupled, customer-centric platforms that will define the next era of digital banking.
We’re looking for an exceptional Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership, shape architecture decisions, and drive engineering excellence across one of our squads. While initial focus areas may include payments and core banking experiences, this role is intentionally broad — you will contribute across customer journeys including transactions, profiles, preferences, and beyond.
This is your opportunity to design, build, challenge, and run modern systems at scale.
You’ll join a high-performing engineering crew working in a full-cycle model, where engineers own outcomes end-to-end — from system design and build through to reliability and operational excellence.
As a Staff Engineer, you will:
Lead system design and architectural decisions for large-scale digital platforms
Drive technical strategy and influence engineering direction across squads
Coach and uplift engineers, fostering strong engineering fundamentals
Lead significant technical change, including modernisation and legacy simplification
Champion reliability, resilience, and operational excellence for mission-critical services
Partner closely with product and stakeholders to deliver meaningful customer outcomes
Our ambition is to create:
Seamless digital experiences that enhance the financial wellbeing of Australians
Accelerated delivery velocity by untangling legacy complexity
Always-available, resilient channels powered by scalable cloud infrastructure
You’ll help shape modern, decoupled platforms designed for long-term differentiation.
Our Technology Environment
We use a modern, evolving technology stack. You don’t need to know everything, but strong fundamentals and experience in similar environments are essential.
AWS (Azure experience also welcome)
Microservices architecture
DevSecOps practices
CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus)
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation)
Serverless Stack Toolkit (SST)
Automation and quality engineering practices
We value engineers who are comfortable working across the stack. While we prefer a full-stack profile, depth in either frontend or backend is acceptable provided you can confidently contribute end-to-end.
Have proven experience designing and building large-scale digital applications
Demonstrate strong system design and engineering fundamentals
Have operated microservices in production environments
Can pragmatically address technical debt with commercial awareness
Influence technical direction and align stakeholders behind it
Lead complex migrations, modernisation initiatives, and tooling adoption
Coach and mentor engineers to elevate team capability
Encourage constructive challenge and continuous improvement
