General Motors

Staff Product Manager – Access & Entry Systems

Mountain View, California, United States of America Full time

Job Description

Why join us?

General Motors pioneers the innovations that move and connect people to what matters. We see a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. As we move toward this vision, software and intelligent hardware play an integral role as they become more prominent in our vehicles.

Within Software & Services Product Management, we are building a world-class product development culture and a portfolio of software-defined vehicles by tightly integrating software, hardware, and services to create complete and compelling vehicle experiences for our customers.

Keys, locks, power doors, windows, and other entry systems sit at the heart of how customers first experience and trust our vehicles. From seamless, secure entry and delightful welcomes to advanced powered closures, this team shapes everyday interactions that must feel effortless, safe, and intuitive in every GM vehicle around the world.

The Role

As a Staff Product Manager for Access & Entry Systems, you will own the strategic vision, roadmap, and delivery of features and experiences that govern how customers approach, unlock, enter, and secure their vehicles.

You will define a clear product vision aligned with GM’s broader goals and translate that vision into a strategic roadmap spanning powered closures, mechanical and electronic locks, keyless and digital entry, and window and sunroof interactions. You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design, program, safety, security, and business teams to ensure solutions meet customer needs, regulatory standards, and performance expectations.

This is a senior individual contributor role with broad scope across multiple vehicle programs and nameplates.

You will:

· Lead the product strategy for a portfolio that spans power doors, windows, and liftgates, central locking, passive entry, digital and physical keys, and exterior touchpoints (e.g., handles, buttons, sensors).

· Balance customer delight, safety, security, cost, and program constraints across global markets.

· Tackle complex, highly visible challenges in customer experience, reliability, and security—helping create exterior access experiences that are simple, trusted, and future-ready.

You will thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, make principled decisions, and build consensus across cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences on a scale.

What You’ll Do

· Own the long-term product vision and strategy for power doors, locks, and external entry systems across multiple product teams, balancing user experience, technology, business objectives, safety, and regulatory compliance.

· Define and maintain a portfolio roadmap that spans physical hardware, embedded software, and connected services related to exterior access (e.g., passive entry, key fobs, digital key, powered closures, exterior lighting tie-ins).

· Act as the voice of the customer, ensuring that access and entry experiences are intuitive, secure, inclusive, and best-in-class for GM’s products and features.

· Lead cross-functional teams of stakeholders across Engineering (body, closures, cybersecurity), Design, Safety, Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and other Product teams to deliver cohesive experiences that work seamlessly across vehicle lines.

· Translate customer insights, field performance data, competitive analysis, and regulatory trends into clear requirements, prioritized backlogs, and measurable outcomes.

· Partner with vehicle program teams to define feature content and execution plans, ensuring alignment to timing, cost, and quality targets while protecting the long-term product strategy.

· Establish, monitor, and continuously refine key performance metrics for customer satisfaction, reliability, security, and usage of power doors, locks, and entry features—using data to drive decisions and trade-offs.

· Drive innovation and continuous improvement by exploring new technologies (e.g., smartphone-as-key, advanced sensing, biometric or context-aware entry), piloting concepts, and scaling successful patterns across vehicle platforms.

· Collaborate with other product managers across vehicle states, lighting, digital key, and safety systems to deliver cohesive end-to-end experiences (e.g., approach lighting, welcome animations, lock/unlock flows, safe closure behaviors).

· Communicate vision, strategy, priorities, and trade-offs clearly and persuasively to senior leadership and cross-functional partners, using data and storytelling to build alignment.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

· 6+ years working on technology-powered products as a Product Manager (or equivalent role in Product, Program, or Systems), with at least 3+ years focused on complex hardware–software systems (e.g., automotive, IoT, robotics, consumer electronics).

· Demonstrated experience leading products or features in vehicle systems, body/closures, access and security, or adjacent domains (e.g., digital key, keyless entry, door modules, powered liftgates).

· Proven ability to create and execute product strategy across multiple releases and programs, using both data and sound judgment to inform decisions.

· Strong skills in written communication, with the ability to effectively balance and integrate vision, strategy, and technical detail in a cohesive narrative for diverse audiences (engineering to executives).

· Track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams without direct authority, building consensus, and navigating trade-offs across customer experience, safety/security, cost, timing, and regulatory needs.

· Comfort operating in fast-paced, highly ambiguous environments and making principled, data-informed decisions.

What will give you competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications)

· 8+ years of product management (or equivalent) experience, including ownership of end-to-end product lifecycle from concept through launch and in-market optimization.

· Experience working directly with automotive vehicle programs or other safety-critical, regulated products, ideally in body/closures, access/security, or exterior systems.

· Relevant educational background in Engineering, Computer Science, Product Design, Business (MBA), or related field.

· Experience delivering products that span multiple platforms (embedded, vehicle software, mobile, web, cloud) and orchestrating consistent experiences across them.

· Familiarity with automotive electrical architecture, vehicle states, cybersecurity practices, and/or over-the-air update ecosystems.

· Passion for customer-centric design and a deep curiosity about how people interact with vehicles in the real world—at their driveway, curbside, workplace, and beyond.
