Staff Product Designer

Build - Design Team | New York, NY 

What you’ll do: 

As a Staff Product Designer at Ethic, you will guide the design of core experiences that power our values-aligned investing platform. You will lead major initiatives across advisor and investor tools, from portfolio construction to reporting and account management. You will  spearhead product design efforts that balance clarity, scalability, and trust. This is not a managerial position. 

You will collaborate closely with Product and Engineering to shape direction, structure complexity, and bring world-class craft to the details that define great financial experiences. You will define our systems, strengthen collaboration, and elevate the quality and consistency of design across the product ecosystem. More specifically, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end user experience through product/visual design and research, from discovery through launch.
  • Translate complex financial data and workflows into intuitive and scalable user experiences.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to define project strategy, prioritize work, and set clear design goals for the broader Build team.
  • Prototype and test design hypotheses to validate ideas quickly and improve decision-making.
  • Own and evolve Ethic’s product design system, ensuring coherence across experiences.
  • Conduct, analyze, and synthesize user research, utilizing a range of methods such as user interviews, usability testing, and surveys.
  • Champion product design excellence and advocate for the user throughout the organization.

What you’ll bring to the table: 

  • 6-8 years of experience designing complex and modern digital product experiences.
  • Ideally but not a must. Demonstrated experience designing for financial products and experiences.
  • Expert visual design skills with a sense of hierarchy, layout, and typographic clarity.
  • Deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture, and user research.
  • Proficiency in accessibility standards and best practices for inclusive digital products.
  • Experience with modern AI and design tools such as Figma Make to Claude Code.
  • Experienced working with code or understanding front-end implementation details.
  • Strong ability to reason about systems, data flows, and modular product experiences.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates exceptional craft, clarity and measurable product impact.
  • Experience mentoring other designers and leading through quality and clarity.

Compensation & Benefits: 

Compensation at Ethic is a combination of base salary, equity (stock options) in the company, and benefits. 

The base salary for this role will range from $195,000-$205,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
